On camera at pub street

SIEM REAP, 27 July 2017: Siem Reap provincial government wants to install more CCTV security cameras along a popular tourist pub street in an effort to tighten safety and security for visitors.

Khmer Times reported the scheme was supported financially by MineBea, a private Japanese company.

The street is packed with tourists in the evening visiting restaurants and pubs, but there has been an increase in petty crime that worries authorities. A study of the street showed at least another 30 cameras were required to cover the area adequately. Read more

Vietnam’s top resort improves security

KHANH HOA, 13 July 2016: Nha Trang beach, a top resort in Vietnam, has introduced resort-wide security camera cover to boost tourist safety.

Tuoi Tre News reported the new security camera system has been installed at 12 critical locations along the beach at Nha Trang, one of the popular tourist destinations in south-central Vietnam.

The surveillance camera installation is part of an initiative to improve security for tourists in Nha Trang, according to of the city’s police department head, Colonel Nguyen Van Ngan. Read more

Danang ups surveillance

DANANG, 9 March 2016: Danang authorities plan to install more than 850 public cameras to improve safety in the city.

Tuoi Tre News reported that the Department of Police has submitted a document to the Party Standing Committee and chairman of the People’s Committee, proposing the instalment of an additional 857 cameras to monitor security and traffic in the city.

Cameras have already been installed in 126 locations. Of the total, 71 are managed by the Department of Police and the rest by the Department of Transport. Read more
