Centara appoints Krabi GM

KRABI, SOUTH THAILAND, 14 December 2016: Centara Hotels and Resorts transferred Darren Shaw, former general manager of Centara Grand Beach Resort Phuket to Centara Grand Beach Resort and Villas Krabi, as its general manager, effective last week.

Hailing from Melbourne, Australia, Shaw has more than 19 years of experience working in the hospitality industry.

He started his career with Centara Hotels and Resorts in February 2012 as general manager at Centara Karon Resort Phuket. Read more

ATTA calls for more time

BANGKOK, 19 September 2016: Association of Thai Travel Agents has asked the government for more time to allow tour operators to come to terms with a crackdown on zero-dollar tours.

Speaking at a conference focusing on zero dollars tourism, last week, ATTA vice president, Somchai Chomraka, said the association agreed with the Ministry of Tourism and Sports’ policy, but asked for more clarity on regulations.

ATTA claims that only a few of its members are guilty of organising tours that could be defined as zero-dollar tourism, but many of its members benefit from the free use of buses and commuter vans owned by gem stores and have reaped handsome profits from shopping commissions in the past.  Read more

Tourism Malaysia mission to Laos

VIENTIANE, 18 September 2015: Tourism Malaysia is leading a tourism promotion in Lao capital to boost travel during the remainder of the  Malaysia Year of Festival.

Tourism Malaysia’s deputy director general (International Promotion) Dato’ Haji Azizan Noordin led the travel mission with the objective of updating the travel trade on new attractions in Malaysia and the events that could be promoted to Lao travellers for the remaining months of MyFest 2015. Cambodia registers travel firms online

PHNOM PENH, 22 April 2015: Cambodia’s Ministry of Tourism launches a new online system to complete the legal registration of tourism-related businesses and tour guides.

The online registration speeds up the process for companies and guides to secure a licence to operate legally in tourism.

Phnom Penh Post quoted tourism ministry general director, Neb Samouth, saying it was part of government reforms to simplify the licence-registration process, which must be completed annually by thousands of companies and guides.
