HONG KONG, 19 September 2017: The Hotel Management Asia Summit and Hotel Technology Conference 2017, presented by Hotel Management and Questex Hospitality Group, welcomed 25 international speakers and over 100 delegates at The Mira Hong Kong earlier this month.

WTTC: Is it too much to ask?

BANGKOK, 27 April 2017: “Is it Too Much to Ask?” was the opening line of the World Travel & Tourism Council president & CEO David Scowsill’s speech, at the WTTC Global Summit hosted in Bangkok, Wednesday.

Scowsill urged over 900 leading figures from the public and private sector to stand up and make a real difference, to think about ‘how we can be ‘Transforming our World’.

Scowsill called on the sector to lead the world in the “eradication of poverty, cleaning up the oceans, and protecting habitats”. Read more

Cameron takes pot shot at Trump

BANGKOK, 27 April 2017: President Donald Trump’s attempts to ban people from six Muslim countries from travelling to the United States “played into the hands” of extremists, the UK’s former prime minister said Wednesday.

Trump has said a travel ban is needed to preserve national security and keep out extremists.

But federal judges have halted Trump’s revised executive order issued in March to temporarily close US borders to refugees and nationals from six Muslim-majority countries. Read more

Routes Asia opens in Japan

OKINAWA, 20 March 2017: Routes Asia opened at the weekend here Okinawa attracting over 930 route development professionals from 110 airlines, 170 airports and 20 tourism authorities.

The event is being held at the Okinawa Convention Centre through to 21 March.

“Routes Asia 2017 highlights Okinawa airline’s access from Asian cities, such as Taipei, Hong Kong, Shanghai, Seoul and Bangkok,” said Takeshi Onaga, Governor of Okinawa Prefecture at the opening ceremony. Read more

Ctrip launches business travel app

BEIJING, 2 March 2017: China’s business travel spend reached USD290 billion in 2016, second only to the US according to a report, based on 2016 market data from Ctrip Corporate Travel and Global Business Travel Association (GBTA), the world’s largest business travel organisation.

The report’s findings were highlighted at the 2017 Asia-Pacific Corporate Travel Summit, hosted by Ctrip Corporate Travel, in Beijing last week.

“As the market grows, the need for upgrading the industry is also increasing. In addition to the basic demand for cost savings through business travel management, enterprise customers currently hope to improve management efficiency through an effective and integrated business travel management system,” said Ctrip Corporate Travel CEO Fang Jiqin in his presentation at the summit.
