Facebook profit doubles

SAN FRANCISCO, 3 February 2017: Facebook’s profits more than doubled in the final three months of 2016, as the social media platform saw its audience grow and head towards the two billion mark.

The big jump in income announced Wednesday came despite controversy swirling around Facebook’s role in spreading fake news, and a Texas jury ordering the company to pay USD500 million to a software firm that claims its virtual reality technology was stolen.

Facebook CEO, Mark Zuckerberg, has described virtual reality as one of the company’s important long-range investments. Read more

Cendyn buys Guestfolio

SINGAPORE, 30 November 2016: Cendyn, a cloud-based software and service provider in the travel and hospitality industry with a regional office in Singapore, has bought Guestfolio Communications a CRM marketing platform for boutique hotels.

Cendyn’s acquisition of Guestfolio will broaden the group’s content options for hoteliers to tailor their guest experience and digital marketing solutions.

Laos keep tabs on passengers

VIENTIANE, 27 October 2016: Laos plans to introduce an Advanced Passenger Processing System at three international airports (Vientiane, Luang Prabang and Pakse) to improve security and to share data with second and third countries served by airlines from Laos.

The new system, known as “Advance Passenger Processing” (APP) aims to tackle terrorism by identifying suspects before they board an aircraft or reach their final destination.

Vientiane Times reported that Thailand’s Somapa Information Technology Plc will implement the system in Laos. Read more

App to bundle Thailand travel

BANGKOK, 22 September 2016: Singapore-based Talisman Telecom is joint venturing with two Bangkok-registered media companies, Capital TV and Destination Thailand News Co Ltd, to deliver the first mobile App offering comprehensive travel content on Thailand.

The Destination Thailand App was launched, Tuesday, in Bangkok, at an event attended by the joint venture’s three CEOs; Rane Grady of Capital TV, Stephen Morton of Destination Thailand News and Ananda Rao of Talisman Telecom.

The three CEOs described the project as a new  comprehensive digital and mobile App underwritten by an “ASEAN-based technology consortium to provide the latest information on Thailand for both expats and international tourists”. Read more
