Bamboo Airways back flying to Bangkok

HO CHI MINH CITY, 22 October 2024: Bamboo Airways will resume its Ho Chi Minh City-Don Mueang flights in November after a long pause in its international services when it underwent a comprehensive restructuring with new stakeholders from Taiwan.

Bamboo Airways (QH) Vietnam is preparing to open daily flights between Ho Chi Minh City (SGN) and Bangkok, Don Mueang Airport (DMK), with an Airbus A321 (321) aircraft starting from 26 November.

Bamboo Airways officially resumes regular international flights to Thailand (Bangkok), marking a significant milestone in its journey back to the global skies. In a statement on its Facebook page, the airline said it “has overcome difficulties, made a strong recovery,” and is ready to fulfil its promise to loyal customers to back its international flights. In step one of its recovery phase, the airline restarted domestic flights. It will introduce its first international flight between Ho Chi Minh City and Don Mueang Airport Bangkok on 26 November.

Commencing operations in January 2019, Bamboo Airways flew domestic routes using A320s from hubs Noi Bai International Airport and Tan Son Nhat International Airport. It underwent a massive restructuring that led to the resumption of domestic flights under new ownership and management in early 2024. The introduction of international routes using A321 aircraft starts with daily flights from Ho Chi Minh City to Bangkok’s DMK.

Flight schedule

Flight QH323 departs Ho Chi Minh City (SGN) at 1115  and arrives in Bangkok Dom Mueang airport (DMK) at 1255.
Flight QH324 departs Bangkok Don Mueang at 1400 and arrives in Ho Chi Minh City at 1545.

AI tops the agenda in company budgets

BANGKOK, 22 October 2024: Generative Artificial Intelligence remains a central focus for the travel technology sector looking ahead to 2025, but challenges are emerging as initial optimism begins to dissipate.

That is according to a new report released by Amadeus — ‘Navigating the Future: How Generative Artificial Intelligence is transforming the travel industry’ — which surveyed experts in the field from across the travel ecosystem.

Generative AI is a top priority in budgets

Among the 300+ industry leaders questioned, Generative AI was cited as a ‘top priority’ for the coming year by 46%, ahead of any other technology. This figure rose to 61% in Asia Pacific, suggesting the region may be ready to take the lead in this transformative technology.

Other technologies cited as a top priority for 2025 included data management (38%), cloud architecture (36%), non-generative AI IT infrastructure (34%), and biometric technology (23%).

Globally, over half of travel technology leaders (51%) argue Generative AI already has a ‘significant presence’ in the travel industry in their country. A further 36% expect this presence to emerge over the next year, while 11% expect the process to take one-to-two years. Just 2% of travel technology leaders think it will take three or more years for Generative AI to have a significant presence in the travel sector.

Today, 41% of travel companies say their organisation has the budget and resources to implement Generative AI. In comparison, 87% are open to working with a third-party vendor to develop Generative AI-powered applications.

Challenges in the deployment of Generative AI

While support for the roll-out of Generative AI in the travel technology sector remains undimmed, “Navigating the Future” finds a number of emerging challenges.

When asked what, if anything, was slowing the roll-out of the technology, industry leaders said:

  • Data security – 35%
  • Lack of Generative AI expertise and training – 34%
  • Data quality and inadequate technological infrastructure – 33%
  • ROI concerns, lack of use cases, or difficulty in estimating value – 30%
  • Difficulty in connecting with partners or vendors – 29%

Today, Generative AI specialists are grappling to recruit experts and train existing workforces to bridge a skills gap while working to secure data and convince senior leaders of the value of Generative AI investments.

How is Generative AI being used?

While the experimentation with the deployment of Generative AI continues, several use cases have emerged in the travel technology sector.

These are led by digital assistance for travellers during booking (53%) and followed by recommendations for activities or venues (48%), content generation (47%), helping staff to better serve customers (45%), and collecting and condensing post-travel feedback (45%).

What does the successful deployment of Generative AI look like?

“Navigating the Future” respondents were looking for, in ranked order, return on investment, customer satisfaction, efficiency and productivity improvements, performance metrics (accuracy, precision and relevance) and increases in key performance indicators.

Amadeus Chief Technology Officer Sylvain Roy said, “Generative AI has the potential to transform every facet of our work across the travel ecosystem, significantly enhancing the passenger experience at every step of the journey.

While technology will be a key focus for the next year, questions are rightly being asked whether Generative AI will deliver sufficient returns on investment, while talent shortages are also coming under the spotlight.

“It is crucial that we use this new technology responsibly, ensuring data security, privacy, and content reliability. It is time for Generative AI to prove it can live up to the hype,” Roy concluded.

Amadeus commissioned Mercury Analytics, a market research organisation which harnesses state-of-the-art techniques and AI, to study the role of Generative AI in the travel sector. In the third quarter of 2024, 306 senior technology decision-makers in the travel industry with knowledge of Generative AI were questioned. They were based in 10 markets: Canada, Italy, the UK, France, Germany, India, Australia, China, Japan and the US.

■ History

For a unique venue in the context of MICE, local history is a powerful tool for attracting visitors. Domoheon, the former official residence of the mayor of Busan; Space OneZ, a renovated old warehouse; Haeundae Platform, located in the former Haeundae subway station; and the Busan Modern History Museum, a former Bank of Korea building, are all excellent examples of such unique venues.

Domoheon, formerly the official residence of the mayor of Busan, has been remodeled into a cultural complex that is open to the public. Known among Koreans as a filming location for the TV drama Reborn Rich, it has transformed since that time and now features a café, walking paths, and an outdoor garden. Visitors appreciate Domoheon as an urban sanctuary.

Your next event could be held at Space OneZ, which offers stunning views of the ocean and a large shipyard just outside. This complex cultural space retains the appearance of the 100-year-old bonded warehouse it was remodeled from. With an ample space of 2,645 m², it has hosted numerous receptions and cultural events, while its restaurant serves a wide variety of Western dishes.

Experience Marketing: The Finishing Touch for Busan’s MICE Industry

BUSAN, 21 October 2024: Busan’s MICE industry has matured significantly since the opening of BEXCO, the city’s landmark MICE venue, in 2001, and the establishment of the Convention Bureau in 2005. To be recognized as an expert in any field, one typically needs at least 20 years of experience, and this principle applies to national industries as well. With over 20 years of history, Busan’s MICE industry is now in need of a renaissance.

The end of COVID-19 has catalyzed the evolution of Busan’s MICE sector, which some are dubbing “MICE 2.0” in the era of the experience economy. The pandemic highlighted the convenience and vast potential of the online world, exemplified by platforms like Zoom and the metaverse. Traditional information sharing and product sales within the MICE context are no longer sufficient to meet the expectations of event-goers. To attract those accustomed to digital interaction, the MICE industry is evolving to emphasize unique local experiences, providing offerings that can only be enjoyed through physical attendance.

Busan’s MICE Marketing in the Experience Economy Era

Source: Busan Tourism Organization

As MICE event-goers around the world seek special real-life experiences, Busan’s MICE organizers are focusing on planning and marketing experiences that incorporate knowledge, content, and engaging activities. A notable example of this effort is the Busan International Footwear, Textile & Fashion Exhibition, held in October of last year. The main exhibition took place at BEXCO, while the buyers’ dinner was hosted at Museum 1, Korea’s largest contemporary media art gallery. This unique venue provided visitors with an unforgettable experience, showcasing the identity of the Busan International Footwear, Textile & Fashion Exhibition through captivating media art.

Combining a region’s unique venues with MICE events is a strategy that offers event-goers more than just a program to attend—it provides them with an authentic local experience. Those who have enjoyed a distinctive experience in a region are likely to return for a longer stay. This highlights the significance of the Busan Convention Bureau’s efforts in selecting Busan Unique Venues. In the second half of 2024, the Busan Convention Bureau identified 15 new unique venues, each well-suited for MICE events. These venues showcase Busan’s rich history and culture while offering dynamic leisure activities. They were chosen for their strong appeal to MICE event-goers. The Busan Unique Venues are collaborating with the city of Busan and local businesses to ensure that visitors have an unforgettable MICE experience.

Busan: The Destination for Unforgettable Experiences

Few cities can rival Busan’s diverse MICE infrastructure and growth potential. BEXCO, along with unique venues, stunning oceanfront leisure activities, five-star hotels, and resorts, collectively make up Busan’s world-class MICE ecosystem. As a comprehensive MICE city, Busan must integrate its MICE infrastructure with local tourism to offer event-goers a truly exceptional experience that encourages them to stay longer and return in the future. In this new era, Busan can embrace experience marketing to position itself as a leader in the global MICE industry.
