SINGAPORE, 20 June 2025: Rome-based ITA Airways has extended codeshare flights on an initial set of intercontinental destinations with Lufthansa Group airlines for travel starting from 1 July 1, 2025.

Thanks to the new intercontinental codeshare agreements, ITA Airways will offer customers an even broader network and increasingly efficient, seamless connections between Italy and key destinations worldwide. With a single ticket, passengers will be able to reach their final intercontinental destination in an easier, smoother and safer way.

“Through the implementation of new codeshare flights on intercontinental routes with Lufthansa Group airlines, ITA Airways further strengthens its global presence,” said ITA Airways’ CEO and General Director, Joerg Eberhart. “Following the launch of our codeshare agreements on European routes in March, this expansion marks another important step forward in offering our customers even broader and more seamless travel options. Specifically, passengers will be able to travel with our AZ code on flights to African destinations, such as Kenya, Burkina Faso, Liberia, Ivory Coast, Cameroon, and Sierra Leone, which will be available for sale in the coming weeks.”

ITA Airways’ AZ code will be applied to flights operated by the Lufthansa Group to several African destinations via its hub in Brussels (BRU), including Nairobi (NBO), Abidjan (ABJ), Douala (DLA), Freetown (FNA), Monrovia (ROB), and Ouagadougou (OUA). The flights will be available for sale in the coming weeks.

At the same time, Lufthansa Group customers will benefit from seamless travel with a single ticket to reach intercontinental destinations within ITA Airways’ network, such as Bangkok (BKK), Jeddah (JED), Riyadh (RUH), Cairo (CAI), Rio de Janeiro (GIG), and São Paulo (GRU).

Following the launch of the first intercontinental codeshares, ITA Airways and the Lufthansa Group will continue working together to expand global connectivity and enhance travel options for passengers. In the following months, the network will be further extended with the addition of new codeshare flights on long-haul routes.

This brand-new travel show covers three days of business networking and conference content, concluding on 21 June with registration details estimating an attendance of around 350 travel and hospitality executives from the ASEAN member countries.

Billed as a “premier B2B networking event aimed at strengthening regional tourism collaboration”, ATEX 2025 also positions Sabah as a key tourism destination in ASEAN. It marks a significant milestone for Sabah’s expanding business events sector as the first international business-to-business (B2B) tourism event to be hosted in Sabah. It is viewed as a prelude to the Visit Malaysia Year 2026 promotions.

It is also a significant milestone in regional tourism collaboration and recovery efforts following the Covid-19 pandemic and aligns with Visit Malaysia Year 2026 objectives and advance promotions.

Organisers of the event noted at a press conference earlier this week that there is a detailed blueprint to establish ATEX as a recurring ASEAN tourism trade event, rotating among member countries and hosted by the region’s tourism trade associations.

“The three-day regional event aims to build and strengthen collaboration and business opportunities across Southeast Asia’s expanding travel and tourism industry.”

The ATEX 2025 is jointly organised by the ASEAN Tourism Association (ASEANTA), the Federation of ASEAN Travel Associations (FATA) and the Malaysian Association of Tour and Travel Agents (MATTA). The order covers 14 additional A321neo for All Nippon Airways (ANA) as well as 10 A321neo and three A321XLR for its group airline, Peach Aviation, to upgrade the group’s current fleet.

Peach Aviation will become the first Japanese airline to operate the A321XLR, which has the longest range of any single-aisle aircraft, flying up to 4,700nm/8,700 km nonstop.

“We are delighted to have signed the firm order for the introduction of additional A321neo and the first A321XLR into our group airlines. We believe that this additional introduction of Airbus aircraft will further deepen our relationship,” said Shibata. “We will accelerate the introduction of state-of-the-art and fuel-efficient aircraft to provide our passengers with excellent service and to reduce CO2 emissions.

“From its first order in 1987 to an order book now approaching 100 aircraft, ANA has been a long-standing customer for the A320 Family. This is all while burning 30% less fuel per seat than previous-generation competitor aircraft. The A321XLR’s new Airspace cabin will provide passengers with long-haul comfort in all classes.
