SINGAPORE, 7 September 2023: Princess Cruises is expanding its environmental stewardship in New Zealand by offering funding from its Princess Local Partnerships programme to Dunedin-based Natures Wonders that helps safeguard the country’s iconic wildlife.

The new partnership will support building a habitat for an emerging Blue Penguin colony in Otago and preserving the last major yellow-eye penguin colony on the mainland of New Zealand.

Princess Cruises senior vice president Asia Pacific, UK and Europe, Stuart Allison, said the cruise line is committed to supporting conservation and culture in New Zealand by using tourism as a vehicle for regeneration.

“This expanded partnership will further support community-based conservation efforts in New Zealand, playing a pivotal role in protecting these treasured species for generations to come,” he said.

Natures Wonders owner Perry Reid added: “We are thrilled to be formalising a partnership with Princess Cruises after so many years of introducing Princess guests to the wildlife here at Natures Wonders. With the generous funding from Princess Cruises, we will build more nesting boxes for the flourishing Blue Penguin colony and extend our predator-free boundary. We expect this will greatly impact Blue Penguin numbers while preserving the neighbouring Yellow-Eyed Penguin colony as well.”

Launched in 2019, the Princess Local Partnerships programme is funded by guest donations and also supports Bay Bush Action in the Bay of Islands, a cause it has backed since its inception.

Princess Cruises will return to New Zealand with four ships for the summer cruise season commencing with Coral Princess in Auckland on 16 September. Royal Princess will make her maiden visit to New Zealand, with her first call in Tauranga on 18 October, while Majestic Princess will return visiting Auckland on 30 October. Grand Princess will also make several calls to New Zealand as part of her summer season, visiting Auckland on 17 October.

SINGAPORE, 31 October 2022: When the newest, largest and most innovative Princess Cruises ship – Sun Princess – debuts in February 2024, guests will set sail on a 10-day Grand Mediterranean inaugural voyage with departure options from Barcelona, Rome, and Athens.

The first inaugural cruise of the 175,500-ton vessel, boasting expansive venues, contemporary entertainment, multi-storey dining rooms and next-level accommodation, starts on 8 February 2024. Other Mediterranean voyages will go on sale on 9 November 2022 for voyages through September 2024.

The full European season aboard the new Sun Princess includes 10-day itineraries visiting popular stops throughout the Western and Eastern Mediterranean and the cruise line’s popular series of seven-day voyages departing from either Barcelona, Rome (Civitavecchia) or Athens, which can be combined for the ultimate 14-day or 21-day exploration of these sought-after vacation destinations.

“When you dream of the Mediterranean, you immediately think of sunshine, endless blue water views, colourful and distinctive architecture, incredible cuisine, engaging locals and romantic settings,” said John Padgett, Princess Cruises president. “It’s a perfect match having our new Sun Princess debut in this scenic region because so much of our design inspiration for this next-generation ship comes directly from these iconic destinations.”

The cruise line already changed its protocols on 6 September, when it removed the need for test results for vaccinated guests. This has now been updated to include unvaccinated guests. Children under five do not require pre-travel testing. Based on the cruise itinerary, the minimum age to sail is six months or 12 months.

The change applies to all itineraries sailing from US and European homeports except destinations where government regulations, such as Australia and New Zealand, may still have their own requirements.

A few sailings the cruise line calls “enhanced guidelines voyages” also continue to have their own vaccination and testing requirements. Guests are advised to continue checking their cruise requirements before booking and again before it’s time to sail.

Canada

On 26 September, Transport Canada announced that it was removing its COVID-19 requirements for cruise guests to enter the country effective for cruises 1 October and beyond. Visitors are no longer required to upload their information into the ArriveCAN app. Thus, protocols for cruises, including Canada, are now the same as the standard in the United States, United Kingdom & Europe (this excludes any Enhanced Guidelines Voyages).

Australia & New Zealand

If the cruise departs, arrives or visits Australia, guests 12 to 17 years old must be fully vaccinated (no booster). Guests ages 18 or older must have received primary series of COVID-19 vaccines, including one booster dose if eligible, received any time before embarkation.

Guests aged 18 years or older who are not up to date require a vaccination exemption to sail. Guests 12 and older not fully vaccinated on cruises departing, arriving or visiting Australia require a medical exemption and have different testing requirements. Under local protocols, prior infection with COVID-19 is not grounds for a medical exemption. Medical exemptions need to be submitted to Princess for validation before a booking can be guaranteed.

“Martial Arts is one of my life’s passions, and I share this bond across friends, families and professional engagements,” said Pedro, a two-time Olympic Bronze Medalist, judo world champion and co-owner of FUJI Sports and FUJI Mats. “This partnership with Princess recognises the significance and multi-generational reach of the martial arts community and elevates our ability to progress our mission to share martial arts experiences in fun and unique ways.”

“Today, over 50 years after FUJI Sports was founded, the company has expanded from a small mom-and-pop shop into a company reaching all parts of the globe,” said FUJI Sports co-owner Lia Hatashita. “What I love about the company is the passion and enthusiasm from our staff members who have deep knowledge and understanding of martial arts. And in January 2023, FUJI will take this passion to the open seas for the first time.”

“We applaud these decisions by Transport Canada to make visiting the country easier and more convenient for all guests sailing our popular Alaska and Canada/New England itineraries, and look forward to welcoming everyone on our incredible Alaska and Canadian cruises,” said Princess Cruises president John Padgett. “Alaska and Canadian cruises are among the most desired vacation options in the world, and we look forward to welcoming everyone who’s waited the past three years for this market to open fully.”
