KUALA LUMPUR, 21 August 2026: The Malaysian Association of Tour and Travel Agents (MATTA) welcomes Taiwan as its International Favourite Destination for the National MATTA Fair, scheduled from 4 to 6 September 2026 at the Malaysia International Trade and Exhibition Centre (MITEC), Kuala Lumpur.
Now in its 59th edition, the fair will spotlight Taiwan as a leading international destination, while continuing to champion inbound and domestic tourism.

MATTA’s announcement comes at a timely moment, as tourist arrivals to Taiwan rise 3.4% in early July.
In 2025, Taiwan welcomed a record 8.575 million international visitors, up 9.1% year on year, ranking Malaysia as its top source in the region, contributing 424,094 visitors.
Tourism is a two-way street as 390,000 Taiwanese travellers visited Malaysia in 2025, with the Taiwan market ranking third among non-OIC (not a member of the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation) according to the 2026 Mastercard-Crescent Rating Global Muslim Travel Index.
“The strong and steady exchange of travellers and bond between Malaysia and Taiwan is solid proof that both inbound and outbound tourism are moving at a healthy pace. Naming Taiwan our International Favourite Destination is a natural next step, and we look forward to strengthening both sectors and deepening our partnership within the tourism industry,” said MATTA President Nigel Wong.
“Malaysia is an important and steadily growing source market for Taiwan tourism, and our participation in MATTA Fair September 2026 demonstrates our strong commitment to strengthening tourism ties and bilateral exchanges between Taiwan and Malaysia,” said Taiwan Tourism Administration Kuala Lumpur Office Director Abe Chou,
“Through our ‘Taiwan – Waves of Wonder’ theme, we hope to inspire more Malaysian travellers to discover Taiwan’s diverse tourism experiences, from culture and cuisine to nature and leisure, and experience the unique charm of Taiwan. This year, we have also specially invited four Malaysian travel agencies to join the Taiwan Pavilion and offer Muslim-friendly travel packages, further catering to the travel needs of Malaysian Muslim travellers. We look forward to working closely with our Malaysian tourism industry partners to develop the Muslim-friendly tourism market further and create more opportunities for two-way travel between Taiwan and Malaysia,” he added.
MATTA Fair September 2026 will span 10 exhibition halls, covering more than 40,820 sqm of exhibition space. This edition is set to feature 2,026 booths from 285 participating companies. With strong industry interest, exhibitor participation is expected to increase further in the weeks leading up to the Fair. Visitors can explore Taiwan’s “Waves of Wonder” at its pavilion, located at Level 3 (International Hall) throughout the 3-day Fair.
To ensure a smooth visitor experience, MATTA Fair offers free admission during the show’s opening hours from 1000 to 2100 from Friday to Sunday.
Visitors are encouraged to take advantage of the complimentary shuttle services from KL Sentral and Sunway Putra Mall to MITEC. Parking facilities will also be available for those travelling by car.
