Changi honours its top airlines

SINGAPORE, 8 May 2013: Changi Airport Group presented its Changi Airline Awards 2013 to 34 airline partners, Tuesday evening, to recognise their contribution to the airport’s development.

The annual awards now in its eighth year were presented by Minister for Transport, Lui Tuck Yew at the Regent Hotel.

This year’s Partner of the Year award was presented to FedEx Express, in recognition of its strong partnership with CAG to strengthen the airport’s air hub status.

TAT finalises TTM features

BANGKOK, 30 April 2013: Tourism Authority of Thailand says this year’s Thailand Travel Mart’s welcome reception will honour foreign travel-related professionals who have supported Thailand’s tourism.

It was decided to move the awards presentation for the 2013 “Friends of Thailand,” which is normally part of the annual Thailand Tourism Awards to the TTM to add value to the show.

The welcome reception this year will adopt a street food theme to reflect the country’s most popular dining activity.

Turkish wins award

MONTREAL, 20 March 2013: The 2013 Air Transport News Awards Ceremony, held earlier this week, named Turkish Airlines as Airline of the Year.

The award was presented to the airline’s CEO Dr Temel Kotil.

In his acceptance comments,  the airline CEO noted the airline has adopted a  “zero-tolerance for laziness and bad intentions to customers.”

HONG KONG, 18 March 2013: Amari Residences Phuket won the “Best Architecture Multiple Residence” award at the prestigious Asia Pacific Property Awards 2013, Amari Estates announced last week.

The Asia Pacific Property Awards are part of the long established International Property Awards.

Trip Advsior awards go to Centara

BANGKOK, 5 February 2013: Chen Sea Resort & Spa PhuQuoc, Centara Boutique Collection, has been named one of the top 25 hotels in Vietnam in the TripAdvisor Travellers’ Choice Awards for 2013.

The same awards named Centara Grand Island Resort & Spa Maldives as one of the Top 25 hotels for service in the Maldives, while Centara Sappaya Design Resort Rayong gained the top rank for bed and breakfast in Rayong Klaeng district on the eastern seaboard, Thailand.

The three awards are based on reviews and opinions posted by travellers on the TripAdvisor website.

WTTC names award finalists

LONDON, 24 January 2012: The World Travel & Tourism Council (WTTC) has unveiled 12 finalists for its 2013 Tourism for Tomorrow Awards, who will attend a gala evening at WTTC’s annual Global Summit, to be held in Abu Dhabi, UAE, 9 to 10 April,when judges will announce the overall winners.

The awards recognise sustainable tourism best practices in businesses and destinations worldwide.

Anantara Club bags awards

BANGKOK, 29 November 2012: Anantara Vacation Club, a shared ownership resort company launched 2010 by Anantara Hotels, Resorts & Spas, won two South East Asia Property awards, earlier this week.

In its second year the awards were based on 1,400 nominations submitted by both consumers and industry experts that were judged by a panel of leading professionals and shortlisted for site visits.

Winners were named in 35 award categories, with Anantara Vacation Club receiving two honours.

CNTA chief wins UNWTO award

MADRID, SPAIN, 14 November 2012: UNWTO announced, Tuesday, the winners of its first UNWTO Award for Lifetime Achievement.

Awards were given to the chairman of the China National Tourism Administration Shao Qiwei, and the founder of the international hotel chain Meliá Hotels, Gabriel Escarrer Juliá. They are the first winners of the UNWTO Award for Lifetime Achievement established this year as an annual award to recognise individuals who have demonstrated excellence throughout their tourism careers and serve as inspirational role models.

“Mr Qiwei has played a pivotal role in the development of Chinese domestic and international tourism since taking up his position as chairman of CNTA and president of the China Tourism Association (CTA),” said UNWTO Secretary-General, Taleb Rifai. “Under his leadership, China has become one of the world’s tourism leaders, contributing also to the growing political recognition of the sector,” he added.

ITE hosts annual awards

HO CHI MINH CITY, 18 September 2012: The 4th Tourism Alliance Awards were presented, last Friday, to 28 winners from seven categories at the opening ceremony and gala dinner of the 8th International travel Expo 2012 at the city’s White Palace.

The Tourism Alliance Awards ceremony, given out to tourism professional from Cambodia, Laos, Myanmar and Vietnam,  was held in conjunction with the 8th International Travel Expo 2012 that ran from 13 to 15 September in Ho Chi Minh City.

TAA awards were introduced 2009, and became part of the ITE programme in 2010. Originally, the awards were given to tourism professionals in Vietnam, Cambodia and Laos, but the scope was extended to include Myanmar, last year, after the four countries created a tourism co-operation pact under the slogan – Four Countries, One Destination.

WTTC calls for award entries

LONDON, 7 September 2012: The World Travel & Tourism Council (WTTC) is inviting tourism businesses, organisations, and destinations, worldwide, to apply for its prestigious Tourism for Tomorrow Awards.

Each year, the Tourism for Tomorrow Awards recognise global leadership in sustainable tourism best practices.

Evaluation of entries is carried out by 22 independent judges from around the world, and includes an on-site evaluation of all award finalists.
