STB shortlists award finalists

SINGAPORE, 24 April 2017: After three months of judging, the Singapore Tourism Board (STB) announced, Friday, 77 finalists for the Experience Excellence, Enterprise Excellence and Customer Service categories of the 2017 Singapore Tourism Awards.

The awards ceremony is set for 4 May when the industry’s best will be honoured for demonstrating excellence and raising the bar in their areas of expertise.

Recipients of the Top Awards and Special Recognition award categories will also be unveiled at the event held at Shangri-La Hotel, which will be attended by Minister S Iswaran, minister for trade and industry. Read more

Thai airlines top low-cost pile

SINGAPORE, 11 April 2017: Two Thai airlines were honoured by TripAdvisor’s inaugural Travellers’ Choice awards for airlines in the Asia-Pacific regional, low-cost category.

THAI Smile was declared the favourite carrier in the category followed by Bangkok Airways in second place.

Indigo India was third. Just three airlines were recognised in the Asia-Pacific regional, low-cost airlines category. Read more

Tripfez founder face of the future

BANGKOK, 31 March 2017: Co-Founder and CEO of a travel booking engine for Muslim travellers, Faeez Fadhlillah, was named the 2017 PATA Face of the Future on Thursday.

Based in Malaysia, he and his co partner, Juergen Gallistl, founded Tripfez in 2013, but the travel portal’s big moment came when it won  USD750,000 in seed funding in May last year to expand he business.

Today it has over 200,000 properties on its site, worldwide, of which 20,000 are “Salam Standard certified”. Read more

Sarawak bags marketing award

KUCHING, 29 March 2017: The Hospitality Sales & Marketing Association International (HSMAI) has honoured Sarawak Tourism with a Silver Adrian Award for travel marketing excellence in public relations.

The Adrian Awards claim to be the “largest and most prestigious global travel marketing competition”.

Sarawak Tourism, which promotes and markets Sarawak as a globally recognised destination for culture, adventure and nature visitation, won the 2016 Adrian Award for its public relations work for the Rainforest World Music Festival. Read more

Phoenix wins recognition

HO CHI MINH CITY, 28 March 2017: One of the Mekong Region’s pioneering travel firms, Phoenix Voyages Group, won a top award for inbound tour companies at the city’s Tourism Festival 2017, hosted last Friday.

For the second year running the company picked up the first place trophy in the category of “Top 10 Small and Medium Inbound Tour Operators”.

The awards are presented annually by the Tourism Department of Ho Chi Minh City, through its Tourism Promotion Centre. Read more

MALDIVES, 24 March 2017: Centara Grand Island Resort & Spa Maldives won two prestigious awards, the ‘Leading All Inclusive Resort’ from South Asian Travel Awards 2016 and the ‘Guest Review Award 2016’ from Booking.com, one of the largest global travel websites.

The South Asian Travel Awards is the first-ever regional travel awards endorsed by multi national associations.

Bali captures two TripAdvisor awards

SINGAPORE, 22 March 2017: Bali once again tops international awards, this time TripAdvisor’s Travellers Choice Awards for Best Destinations in Asia and also the world.

The popular island destination in Indonesia was followed in second place on the Asia list by Cambodia’s Siem Reap, home to the World Heritage site of Angkor Wat.

Thailand famed for its mass tourism, that packs in more than 32 million tourists annually, had three destinations in the top 10 list for Asia; third placed Phuket, seventh placed Samui  and eighth placed Bangkok.  Read more

Changi wins triple

SINGAPORE, 16 March 2017: For the fifth year in a row, Singapore Changi Airport has been voted the World’s Best Airport by air travellers at the 2017 World Airport Awards, held at the Passenger Terminal EXPO in Amsterdam, The Netherlands.

In all, this is the eighth time that Changi Airport has picked up this top international title at the World Airport Awards since it was introduced in 2000.

Changi Airport was also named the Best Airport in Asia, and Best Airport for Leisure Amenities, the latter a title it has held since the award category was introduced in 2009. Read more

Four Asian endeavours reach Nat GEO finals

BERLIN, 10 March 2017: Five winners of the 2017 National Geographic World Legacy Awards were announced Thursday during an awards ceremony held at the Palais am Funkturm, the new official awards venue of ITB Berlin.

For the first time four of the 15 finalists that reached the awards stage at ITB Berlin, this year, were from Asia.

It indicates a growing recognition in Asia that tourism must abide by sustainable tourism principles and be part of the solution to save the environment. Read more

Centara resorts win TrpAdvisor recognition

BANGKOK, 8 March 2017: Two Centara properties gained ratings within the Top 25 TripAdvisor Awards 2017 in the Thailand Family Hotels category.

Centara Seaview Resort Khao Lak was ranked 10th and Centara Kata Resort Phuket 21st.

Centara Hotels and Resorts chief executive officer, Thirayuth Chirathivat said: “This is a great honour for Centara Hotels & Resorts, and a great tribute to the outstanding teams we have at both award-winning Centara properties.” Read more
