{"id":275500,"date":"2026-10-29T05:15:00","date_gmt":"2026-10-28T22:15:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.ttrweekly.com\/site\/?p=275500"},"modified":"2026-10-29T06:10:29","modified_gmt":"2026-10-28T23:10:29","slug":"pata-posts-annual-tourism-monitor-results","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.ttrweekly.com\/site\/2026\/10\/pata-posts-annual-tourism-monitor-results\/","title":{"rendered":"PATA posts annual tourism monitor results"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">BANGKOK, 29 October 2026: The Pacific Asia Travel Association (PATA) released its Annual Tourism Monitor 2026 on Tuesday, claiming tourism in the Asia-Pacific region is nearing full recovery when compared with the post-COVID era&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">International visitor arrivals (IVAs) across 44 destinations reached 239 million in the early months of 2026, up 2.9% from the same period in 2025 and at 96.3% of the corresponding 2019 level.<\/p>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"aligncenter size-full is-resized\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"434\" height=\"270\" src=\"https:\/\/www.ttrweekly.com\/site\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/10\/image-297.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-275502\" style=\"width:348px;height:auto\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.ttrweekly.com\/site\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/10\/image-297.png 434w, https:\/\/www.ttrweekly.com\/site\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/10\/image-297-300x187.png 300w, https:\/\/www.ttrweekly.com\/site\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/10\/image-297-356x220.png 356w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 434px) 100vw, 434px\" \/><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">With tourism recovery now largely complete at the regional level, growth is beginning to moderate, while performance continues to vary considerably between destinations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In 2025, the region recorded 700.2 million international visitor arrivals across 46 destinations, reaching 99.3% of the 2019 total. The USA recorded the most arrivals among the destinations covered, followed by Hong Kong SAR; Macao, China; T\u00fcrkiye; and Mexico. Thailand and Japan also remained among the region\u2019s leading destinations by arrival volume, while Vietnam and Korea (ROK) recorded particularly strong growth.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Korea (ROK) and Vietnam stand out for combining strong year-on-year growth with arrivals well above their comparable 2019 levels. Korea (ROK) recorded 10.7 million international visitor arrivals (IVAs), up 21.4% year-on-year and reaching 128.4% of its 2019 level. Vietnam recorded 12.3 million IVAs, up 14.9% year-on-year and reaching 144.5% of its 2019 volume.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Their performance contrasts with softer results in several established markets. The USA recorded 27 million IVAs, down 1% year-on-year, while Thailand recorded 15.9 million, down 4.9%. In 2025, arrivals also softened in several major markets, including the USA, Thailand, India and Cambodia.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>From recovery to a new growth phase<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cThe recovery of tourism across Asia Pacific is an important achievement for our industry, but recovery does not mean that the environment has become predictable,\u201d said PATA CEO Noor Ahmad Hamid.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cWe are operating in a world where disruption has become a constant &#8211; from geopolitical conflicts and natural disasters to economic pressures and changes in travel policies. Our ability to adapt, work together, and respond to changing traveller needs will be increasingly important.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">As the region moves beyond the initial post-pandemic rebound, the focus is shifting from restoring visitor numbers to building sustainable and resilient growth.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Travel facilitation and connectivity will remain important. Visa policies, air connectivity, and other transportation links can quickly influence where people choose to travel. At the same time, higher travel costs and more complicated travel procedures can affect demand.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The report also highlights the importance of diversification. Destinations that can attract visitors from a wider range of source markets and encourage longer stays can better manage changes in demand. For destinations that have already recovered beyond their 2019 levels, managing visitor flows and encouraging travel beyond peak periods and major gateways will become increasingly important.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cTourism has shown remarkable resilience over the past several years,\u201d added Hamid. \u201cThe next phase will require us to think differently about growth.
