The International Dragon Boat Race saw 60 teams from 20 countries participating. Initially, the intention was to stop racial wars among local tribes where headhunting was largely practised.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Ruler James Brooke instructed all tribes to challenge each other through boat races to prove their power and strength rather than headhunting which brought lasting peace to the area.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Speaking at the launching ceremony at the weekend, The Right Honourable Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Dr Abang Haji Abdul Rahman Zohari, Premier of Sarawak, noted that due to flight constraints, Sarawak had to limit the number of regatta participants saying the recent MasWing acquisition and the changes in aviation in Sarawak should increase participation and boost the economy in the future<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The aviation reference touched on a government announcement first reported by the Borneo Post on 29 October that confirmed a recent signing of a memorandum of understanding (MoU) between the Sarawak government, Malaysia Aviation Group and Hornbill Skyways for the acquisition of shares in MASwings.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>It\u2019s a significant step forward in addressing accessibility concerns in Sarawak,\u201d the Tourism Malaysia director-general Datuk Dr Ammar Abd Ghapar told the media.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-video is-provider-youtube wp-block-embed-youtube wp-embed-aspect-16-9 wp-has-aspect-ratio\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<iframe title=\"LENSA NASIONAL : SARAWAK INTERNATIONAL DRAGON BOAT REGATTA 2022\" width=\"696\" height=\"392\" data-src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/dbAjxlvVaTI?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" allowfullscreen src=\"data:image\/svg+xml;base64,PHN2ZyB3aWR0aD0iMSIgaGVpZ2h0PSIxIiB4bWxucz0iaHR0cDovL3d3dy53My5vcmcvMjAwMC9zdmciPjwvc3ZnPg==\" class=\"lazyload\" data-load-mode=\"1\"><\/iframe>\n<\/div><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Speaking to reporters Ammar expressed his optimism about the collaboration, emphasising the importance of increased accessibility to the region.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>It will lead to a significant improvement in domestic flights on Borneo island once the takeover of MASwings by the Sarawak government and a new airline is established.
