It is celebrated in honour of Saint Joseph and was named Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity by UNESCO. Every March, the city of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.spain.info\/en\/destination\/valencia\/\">Valencia<\/a> fills up with giant dolls made of cardboard known as <em>ninots<\/em>. The themes are varied but always have a satirical undertone. The festival ends with the Crem\u00e0, during which all these characters are burnt. There are lots of fireworks, fun and colour.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><a><\/a><a href=\"https:\/\/www.spain.info\/en\/calendar\/fiestas-magdalena\/\">La Magdalena<\/a><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.spain.info\/en\/destination\/castellon-la-plana\/\">Castell\u00f3n de la Plana<\/a>, north of the Valencia Region, hosts the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.spain.info\/en\/calendar\/fiestas-magdalena\/\">Magdalena festivities<\/a> at the beginning of spring. They date back to the 15<em>th<\/em> century and celebrate the city\u2019s origins. Saint Mary Magdalen is honoured with a pilgrimage procession. The most internationally famous one is in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.spain.info\/en\/destination\/alcoy-alcoi\/\">Alcoy<\/a>. This is a historical celebration that represents the battle of the Reconquista &#8211; a period when Christians fought the Muslims to reconquer the Iberian Peninsula. It takes on a different air in each place, but the things they all have in common are a lot of music, gunpowder and colourful costumes. It&#8217;s a food and wine fair where you can enjoy the local wine and even see the grapes being trodden live.
