This year, the Malaysian delegation was led by the&nbsp;Minister of Tourism, Arts &amp; Culture Dato&#8217; Sri Hajah Nancy Shukri. The Malaysia Pavilion consisted of 64 delegates representing 32 organisations, mainly hotels, travel agencies and state tourism boards. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"aligncenter\"><img decoding=\"async\" data-src=\"https:\/\/www.ttrweekly.com\/site\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/05\/malaysia-tourism-press-conference-at-atm-2022-600x403.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-204755 lazyload\" src=\"data:image\/svg+xml;base64,PHN2ZyB3aWR0aD0iMSIgaGVpZ2h0PSIxIiB4bWxucz0iaHR0cDovL3d3dy53My5vcmcvMjAwMC9zdmciPjwvc3ZnPg==\" style=\"--smush-placeholder-width: 600px; --smush-placeholder-aspect-ratio: 600\/403;\" \/><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>Malaysia reopened its borders to international tourists on 1\nApril 2022. Commenting on the decision, Dato&#8217; Sri Nancy said: &#8220;It was\nindeed a significant milestone for our tourism industry as we welcome more\ninternational first time and returning visitors to boost our economy further.\nNow that our borders are fully open again, we are confident that we will\nwitness a strong rebound in tourism numbers to bolster the recovery of our\neconomy. This year, we estimate 2 million international tourist arrivals\ngenerating more than MYR8.6 billion in tourism receipts.&#8221;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Pre-pandemic, in 2019, Malaysia received 397,726 tourists\nfrom the MENA region. Saudi Arabia was Malaysia\u2019s top market, accounting for\n121,444 tourists, more than 30% of arrivals, from the West Asia and North\nAfrican regions, an 8.2% increase over the previous year. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The minister scheduled meetings with senior executives from\nkey Middle Eastern airlines to discuss future collaboration during the event.\nShe also attended the signing of a Memorandum of Collaboration (MOC) between\nTourism Malaysia and Emirates hosted at the airline&#8217;s pavilion.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8220;We will continue to place a strong emphasis and focus\non attracting Middle Eastern tourists to Malaysia, so naturally, we will be\nstepping up our promotional efforts here,&#8221; said Dato&#8217; Sri Nancy during the\nsigning ceremony.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>DUBAI, 13 May 2022: Tourism Malaysia returned to the Arabian Travel Market this week to restart promotions in the Middle East and network with tourism trade partners after a two-year pause due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
