In line with Sarawak Tourism Board\u2019s goals to promote sustainable and\nresponsible tourism, Borneo Jazz will be providing fun and educating workshops\nand eco-friendly projects prior to the festival.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Borneo Jazz Talent Search (closes 31 May 2022)<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Borneo Jazz Talent Search is a platform to provide\nmusicians between the ages of 15 years and above from all over Malaysia who\nwants to make their talent known on the world stage with categories for Jazz,\nDJ and Open categories.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>BJTS prizes <\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>J<strong>azz Category<\/strong><br>First prize: MYR5000<br>2<sup>nd<\/sup> prize: MYR3000<br>3<sup>rd<\/sup> prize: MYR2000<br><strong>Open Category<\/strong><br>Prize: MYR3500<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Winners of Borneo Jazz Talent Search 2022 will not only win\ncash prizes but also attend a MasterClass by an international band on 24 June\nin Miri, Sarawak, and perform during Borneo Jazz Festival on 25 June.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Borneo Jazz FAB LAB (closes 18 June 2022)<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Bringing musicians of diverse cultural backgrounds together\nto celebrate jazz music and empower the local community, a new artist residency\nprogramme called FAB LAB is hosting a six-week interactive workshop in Miri for\n30 musicians through to 18 June 2022.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>FAB LAB aims to empower and enliven musicians prior to the\nBorneo Jazz festival through four workshops &#8212; Music Appreciation \u2013 Listen and\nMake It Your Own; Methodology \u2013 How to FEEL Free Playing Music; Sound\nEngineering- Make It Sound Good!; and Performance Module- Let&#8217;s Play.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>FAB LAB will be led by two international musicians, Chris Stalk,\na saxophonist, composer and arranger from France and Jules Vulzor, a bassist,\nproducer and DJ from Switzerland.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>ECO DRUM JAM project (1430 to 1830) 5 June 2022<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>ECO DRUM JAM is an eco-friendly initiative and community\nmusic outreach programme with Lewis Pragasam and FAB LAB artists at Coco Cabana\nto create unique drums and percussion instruments from recycled waste and\nproduce feel-good beats from community drumming sessions as a lead up to Borneo\nJazz Festival 2022.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Festival workshops<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Borneo Jazz FAB LAB \/ Talent Search Masterclass with the Pros: (1400 to 1545, 24 June).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Borneo Jazz FAB LAB \/ Talent Search Showcase Performance: (1600 to 1730, 25 June).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Eco Drum Workshop &amp; Jam with Lewis Pragasam &amp; Steve Thornton: &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; (1530 to 1730, 26 June).&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Borneo Jazz Fringe Activities: (0800 to 1730, 24 to 26 June) <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Eco Art Project <\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>An Eco-Art Installation project in collaboration with Miri\nCity Council and MYY Living Arts as a continuation of the Borneo Jazz Beat\nPlastic Campaign initiated in 2019 as part of the Borneo Jazz festival\n&#8216;Responsible Tourism&#8217; programme to transform Miri into a sustainable and\neco-friendly city. Themed &#8216;Trashing the Jungle&#8217;, this is a reminder that the\nplastics that make our lives convenient also choke and pollute our natural\nenvironment through our own actions. The objective of this eco-project is to\nre-purpose recyclable plastic waste and make art from it.&nbsp; <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Borneo Boat Lute Exhibition<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The exhibition will consist of four different boat lutes\nfrom Borneo island to be showcased with informative talks by two boat lute\npractitioners.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Miri Sape Movement &#8211; \u2018Evolution of the Sape\u2019<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>For the first time at the coming Borneo Jazz Festival 2022,\nthe story &amp; the evolution of the Sape\u2019 will be dramatised through live\nSape\u2019 instrumentals performed by professional Sape\u2019 artistes from the Sape\u2019\nMovement (Miri) community. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This 30-minute Sape\u2019 instrumental dramatisation is aimed to bring audiences to \u201ctravel through a legendary journey\u201d in getting a glimpse of the beginning &amp; evolution of Borneo\u2019s prized &amp; once known to be a \u201cspiritually soul healing\u201d instrument. Estimating between 12 to 15 young &amp; senior Sape\u2019 Masters from various native ethnicity will collectively perform various Sape\u2019 genres &amp; songs.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Sape Movement performance will be arranged by Mr\nAnderson Kalang &amp; Mr Garry Sudom Raymond. They were among the co-founders\nof KL Sape&#8217; Collective (the first network of Sape&#8217; artists established in Kuala\nLumpur in mid-2016). <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Wellness Programme (25-26 June)<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Sun Meditation &amp; Yin Yoga Flow with Sape Accompaniment (0800- 0930).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Social Experiments on Human Connection: Eye Contact in Silence, Mirror Work&nbsp;&nbsp; Join us for a 15-mins experience to engage in meaningful human connection and a shared sense of humanity (0930 &#8211; 1130).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Recharge Station: A quiet space where people can meditate\nwhile listening to sounds of nature and or\/sounds of Sape to recharge.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Artisanal Craft Bazaar by Artsy Fartsy (1000, 25 to 26 June)<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The bazaar will feature Sarawak&#8217;s basketry and beads.\nVisitors will also have the chance to witness the Batik Painting demonstration\nby Miri-based artist Noel Belulok. There will also be a Tattoo Gallery\nfeaturing Miri tattoo artists. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Performers&#8217; line-up and tickets<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Themed &#8220;Jazz in The Jungle&#8221;, the 17th edition,\nwill be held in a hybrid format for the first time to reach out to the greater\njazz-loving community worldwide, supported by performers from Singapore, Japan,\nFrance, Switzerland, the USA, Hungary and India.&nbsp; <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Performers at the Borneo Jazz festival include Afro Asia\nFeat\u2019s Steve Thornton, ASIABEAT (Malaysia\/Hungary), Gecko &amp; Tokage Parade\n(Japan), Alemay Fernandez &amp; Richard Jackson (Singapore\/USA), MASIA ONE\n(Singapore), QSOUND, DJ Estephe Feat. Chris Stalk and Jules Vulzor with more to\nbe announced in the run-up to the festival.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Jazz music lovers can start purchasing tickets for BJ from\nthe website jazzborneo.com.
