{"id":204027,"date":"2022-04-22T03:15:04","date_gmt":"2022-04-21T20:15:04","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.ttrweekly.com\/site\/?p=204027"},"modified":"2022-04-22T05:47:58","modified_gmt":"2022-04-21T22:47:58","slug":"cathay-pacific-fuels-up-on-saf","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.ttrweekly.com\/site\/2022\/04\/cathay-pacific-fuels-up-on-saf\/","title":{"rendered":"Cathay Pacific fuels up on SAF"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>HONG KONG, 22 April 2022: Cathay Pacific is launching its\npilot Corporate Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF) Programme, the first major\nprogramme of its kind in Asia. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Corporate customers have an opportunity to reduce their\ncarbon footprint from business travel or airfreight by contributing to the use\nof SAF uplifted for the first time from Hong Kong International Airport (HKIA)\non Cathay Pacific flights.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Cathay Pacific is kick-starting the programme with eight\ncorporations recruited as launch customers: AIA; Airport Authority Hong Kong\n(AAHK); DHL Global Forwarding; HSBC; Kintetsu World Express (KWE); PwC China;\nStandard Chartered, and Swire Pacific.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Launch customers are committed to reducing the climate\nimpact of their business travel and air freight activities by supporting the\nwider adoption of renewable energy by the air transport industry through the\nuse of SAF.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Cathay Pacific chief executive officer Augustus Tang said:\n\u201cWe continue to pioneer our industry\u2019s move towards more substantial use of\nSAF, especially in Asia. Last year, we were among the first carriers in the\nworld to announce a target of 10% SAF for our total fuel use by 2030. We have\nmade significant progress since then and are pleased that uplifting SAF from\nHKIA is now a reality with the strong support of the local authorities and fuel\nsuppliers.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>SAF will help to decarbonise airline operations over the\nnext few decades before alternatively powered aircraft can be widely deployed.\nCompared to conventional jet fuel, SAF can reduce up to 100% carbon emissions\non a lifecycle basis, depending on the SAF technology used.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The SAF used for the launch of this programme is made from\nused cooking oil and animal fat waste. It is made available to the airline\nthrough the pilot Corporate SAF Programme fuel suppliers PetroChina and Shell. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Apart from its increased use of SAF, Cathay Pacific&#8217;s carbon\nreduction roadmap goals up to 2050 include fleet modernisation, operational\nefficiency improvements, leveraging on emerging technology breakthroughs to\ndecarbonise aviation and offering carbon offsets through its Fly Greener\nprogramme.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em>(Source: Cathay Pacific)<\/em><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>HONG KONG, 22 April 2022: Cathay Pacific is launching its pilot Corporate Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF) Programme, the first major programme of its kind in Asia.
