{"id":203879,"date":"2022-04-20T03:15:42","date_gmt":"2022-04-19T20:15:42","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.ttrweekly.com\/site\/?p=203879"},"modified":"2022-04-20T03:48:22","modified_gmt":"2022-04-19T20:48:22","slug":"manila-tops-the-hot-spot-list-for-southeast-asia","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.ttrweekly.com\/site\/2022\/04\/manila-tops-the-hot-spot-list-for-southeast-asia\/","title":{"rendered":"Manila tops the Hot Spot list for Southeast Asia"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>SINGAPORE, 20 April 2022: Manila, Philippines, is the top\nhot spot in Southeast Asia according to booking trends monitored by Travelport\nduring the first quarter of the year.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>A global technology company powering bookings for hundreds\nof thousands of travel suppliers worldwide released its latest trend data on\nMonday that identifies the top 10 hot spots in Southeast Asia that are gaining\nbookings as travel restrictions ease.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"aligncenter\"><img decoding=\"async\" data-src=\"https:\/\/www.ttrweekly.com\/site\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/04\/Manila-600x450.jpeg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-203912 lazyload\" src=\"data:image\/svg+xml;base64,PHN2ZyB3aWR0aD0iMSIgaGVpZ2h0PSIxIiB4bWxucz0iaHR0cDovL3d3dy53My5vcmcvMjAwMC9zdmciPjwvc3ZnPg==\" style=\"--smush-placeholder-width: 600px; --smush-placeholder-aspect-ratio: 600\/450;\" \/><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>Manila came out top due to easy entry rules followed by Singapore. Thailand&#8217;s capital Bangkok, gained the third spot while booking trends placed the Thai beach resort Phuket in eighth place.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Travelport excluded Brunei and Myanmar from its booking data\nanalysis. Both countries lagged far behind in easing restrictions, while\nMyanmar&#8217;s recovery remains a non-starter due to civil unrest and opposition to\nthe ruling military junta following the 1 February 2021 coup.&nbsp;&nbsp; <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>According to Travelport\u2019s booking data, the top 10 destinations in Southeast Asia for international travellers to visit in 2022 are:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li><em>Manila (Philippines)<\/em><\/li><li><em>Singapore (Singapore)<\/em><\/li><li><em>Bangkok (Thailand)<\/em><\/li><li><em>Ho Chi Minh City (Vietnam)<\/em><\/li><li><em>Jakarta (Indonesia)<\/em><\/li><li><em>Kuala Lumpur (Malaysia)<\/em><\/li><li><em>Hanoi (Vietnam)<\/em><\/li><li><em>Phuket (Thailand)<\/em><\/li><li><em>Bali (Indonesia)<\/em><\/li><li><em>Angeles\/Mabalacat (Philippines)<\/em><\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Travelport reports that for the first quarter of 2022,\ninternational flight bookings to Southeast Asia showed an upward trajectory\nwith the Philippines taking the lead by regaining 42% of its international\nbookings when compared to the first quarter of 2019 before the Covid-19\npandemic. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Philippines and Thailand were among the earliest\ncountries in Southeast Asia to ease border rules, although Thailand\u2019s travel\nindustry said more should have been done to streamline entry requirements.&nbsp; <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>However<sub>, <\/sub>in the first quarter of 2022, these two countries alone represent over half (51%) of all international flight bookings to the region, according to Travelport findings.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Philippines fully reopened its borders to vaccinated\ntravellers on 10 February. Within a week of the announcement, international\nflight bookings to the country rose by 114%. By 28 February, the country saw a\n294% increase in daily flight bookings.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Thailand reintroduced its Test &amp; Go programme on 1\nFebruary, which required tourists to have a negative PCR test for entry and a\nsubsequent antigen test on the fifth day of travel. In the 24 hours following\nthat announcement, international flight bookings to Thailand grew by 37%. On 7\nMarch, the Thai government further revised the measures, dropping the testing\nrequirements on the fifth day. With that change, international flight bookings\ngrew 128% compared to booking on the first announcement.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The top five countries travelling to Southeast Asia are the\nUnited States, United Kingdom, Australia, Saudi Arabia, and South Korea.
