{"id":203759,"date":"2022-04-13T10:33:19","date_gmt":"2022-04-13T03:33:19","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.ttrweekly.com\/site\/?p=203759"},"modified":"2022-04-18T09:31:01","modified_gmt":"2022-04-18T02:31:01","slug":"sabah-salutes-the-return-of-firefly","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.ttrweekly.com\/site\/2022\/04\/sabah-salutes-the-return-of-firefly\/","title":{"rendered":"Sabah salutes the return of Firefly"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>KOTA KINABALU, 13 April 2022: Firefly\ncelebrated its inaugural flight from Penang to Kota Kinabalu on Monday, with 85\npassengers on board.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Boeing 737-800 aircraft was greeted\nwith a water cannon salute as it touched down at the Kota Kinabalu\nInternational Airport Monday evening.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"aligncenter\"><img decoding=\"async\" data-src=\"https:\/\/www.ttrweekly.com\/site\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/04\/image_6483441-600x338.jpeg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-203763 lazyload\" src=\"data:image\/svg+xml;base64,PHN2ZyB3aWR0aD0iMSIgaGVpZ2h0PSIxIiB4bWxucz0iaHR0cDovL3d3dy53My5vcmcvMjAwMC9zdmciPjwvc3ZnPg==\" style=\"--smush-placeholder-width: 600px; --smush-placeholder-aspect-ratio: 600\/338;\" \/><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>Sabah Tourism, Culture, and Environment\nMinister Datuk Jafry Ariffin and his assistant minister cum Sabah Tourism Board\nchairman Datuk Joniston Bangkuai were present to welcome the passengers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>They were accompanied by the state\u2019s\ntourism ministry permanent secretary Datuk Mohd Yusrie Abdullah @ Yantis\nGoduan; Sabah Tourism Board chief executive officer Noredah Othman; Malaysia\nAirport Berhad (Sabah) acting senior general manager Kamaruzzaman Razali;&nbsp; MASWing chief operational officer Captain\nNasaruddin A. Bakar; and Malaysia Tourism Promotion Board deputy chairman Datuk\nSeri Dr Anil Jeet Singh Sandhu.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>According to Jafry, the launch of Firefly&#8217;s\nnew Penang-Kota Kinabalu route should increase tourist arrivals to Sabah,\nespecially since Penang is close to Langkawi, which receives international\nflights.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8220;The state government thanks Firefly\nfor choosing Kota Kinabalu as its destination route. I hope that cooperation\nbetween the state government and Firefly will be strengthened further to boost\nthe state&#8217;s tourism industry.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8220;This Firefly route has unquestionably\nmade Sabah more accessible to Malaysians and visitors alike. As such, I invite\neveryone to visit Sabah and immerse themselves in the state&#8217;s numerous\nfascinating attractions and culture,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Jafry added his Ministry is committed to\nworking with all airlines in the country and welcoming more direct flights to\nSabah in the future.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Meanwhile, Nasaruddin stated that Firefly\nwill operate a daily flight between Penang-Kota Kinabalu and Kota\nKinabalu-Penang until 24 April.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>From 25 April onwards, the airline will\noperate two flights daily on each route.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8220;The response has been very promising\nand encouraging, especially during the festival and holiday seasons.
