{"id":203361,"date":"2022-04-05T05:15:33","date_gmt":"2022-04-04T22:15:33","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.ttrweekly.com\/site\/?p=203361"},"modified":"2022-04-05T06:03:23","modified_gmt":"2022-04-04T23:03:23","slug":"developing-rural-tourism-in-sabah","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.ttrweekly.com\/site\/2022\/04\/developing-rural-tourism-in-sabah\/","title":{"rendered":"Developing rural tourism in Sabah"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>KOTA KINABALU, 5 April 2022: The Sabah Tourism Board product\nteam is helping to transform Bingkor township in Sabah\u2019s interior into a\nsustainable rural tourism destination.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The team had recently carried out an engagement with 47\nVillage Development and Security Committees (JPKK) in the Mukim Bingkor to\nexplore tourism potential in their respective area.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"aligncenter\"><img decoding=\"async\" data-src=\"https:\/\/www.ttrweekly.com\/site\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/04\/Bingkor_tourism-MS0204_NSTfield_image_socialmedia.var_1648871455-600x315.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-203386 lazyload\" src=\"data:image\/svg+xml;base64,PHN2ZyB3aWR0aD0iMSIgaGVpZ2h0PSIxIiB4bWxucz0iaHR0cDovL3d3dy53My5vcmcvMjAwMC9zdmciPjwvc3ZnPg==\" style=\"--smush-placeholder-width: 600px; --smush-placeholder-aspect-ratio: 600\/315;\" \/><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>Organised in collaboration with the Keningau Tourism and\nCulture Association, the engagement session was officiated by State Assistant\nPublic Works minister and Bingkor assemblyman Datuk Robert Tawik.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Sabah Tourism Board chief financial officer Julinus Jeffrey\nJimit said rural areas such as Bingkor have a great deal of potential to become\na draw factor for tourists looking to travel into the interior of the state.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8220;While we encourage tourists to visit Sabah and\nexperience the state&#8217;s major attractions, we equally encourage them to explore\nthe countryside and interact with the local community to get the most out of\ntheir visit.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"aligncenter\"><img decoding=\"async\" data-src=\"https:\/\/www.ttrweekly.com\/site\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/04\/Bingkor_Sabah_RumahBesarSedomon-03-1-600x400.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-203387 lazyload\" src=\"data:image\/svg+xml;base64,PHN2ZyB3aWR0aD0iMSIgaGVpZ2h0PSIxIiB4bWxucz0iaHR0cDovL3d3dy53My5vcmcvMjAwMC9zdmciPjwvc3ZnPg==\" style=\"--smush-placeholder-width: 600px; --smush-placeholder-aspect-ratio: 600\/400;\" \/><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8220;It is part of the product team&#8217;s role to support rural\ncommunities in consistently unlocking their potential and creating\nopportunities for them to thrive through tourism,&#8221; he explained.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>During the engagement session, Julinus gave a presentation\non the tourism industry and how rural communities can benefit from it, especially\nnow that travel is fully resumed with the reopening of the country\u2019s border.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Among other things, the programme aimed to raise awareness\namong JPKK representatives about tourism products that can be developed,\nparticularly community-based tourism products in Bingkor.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Additionally, they were also briefed on the importance of\nequipping themselves with digital marketing skills to efficiently market their\ntourism products.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Julinus added that similar engagement would be expanded to\nKeningau and other districts soon to empower and reach out to as many rural\ncommunities as possible.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Bingkor is about 10 kilometres from Keningau and has a\npredominantly Dusun population.
