{"id":203254,"date":"2022-04-01T05:15:13","date_gmt":"2022-03-31T22:15:13","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.ttrweekly.com\/site\/?p=203254"},"modified":"2022-04-01T06:19:39","modified_gmt":"2022-03-31T23:19:39","slug":"india-keeps-a-watchful-eye-on-airfares","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.ttrweekly.com\/site\/2022\/04\/india-keeps-a-watchful-eye-on-airfares\/","title":{"rendered":"India keeps a watchful eye on airfares"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>DELHI, 1 April 2022: India\u2019s aviation authorities reminded\ndomestic airlines this week that they continue to monitor airfares on a monthly\nbasis to prevent sudden price surges and also to promote transparency.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Directorate General of Civil Aviation emphasised earlier this week that airlines should display on their websites the tariff sheet route-wise across their network in various fare categories and in the same manner it is offered in the market.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"aligncenter\"><img decoding=\"async\" data-src=\"https:\/\/www.ttrweekly.com\/site\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/08\/airplane-600x398.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-148456 lazyload\" src=\"data:image\/svg+xml;base64,PHN2ZyB3aWR0aD0iMSIgaGVpZ2h0PSIxIiB4bWxucz0iaHR0cDovL3d3dy53My5vcmcvMjAwMC9zdmciPjwvc3ZnPg==\" style=\"--smush-placeholder-width: 600px; --smush-placeholder-aspect-ratio: 600\/398;\" \/><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>In addition, the DGCA noted its Tariff Monitoring Unit\ncontinues to monitor airfares on specific routes on a monthly basis to ensure\nthat the airlines do not charge airfares outside a range declared by them.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Even though the government does not regulate airfares under\nnormal circumstances, the Covid-19 pandemic adversely impacted businesses&#8217;\nrevenue streams, including the aviation sector. In response, the government\nintroduced fare bands with upper and lower limits as a special measure to serve\nthe dual purpose of protecting both travellers and airlines.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Presently, fare capping is applicable on a rolling basis on\na 15-day cycle. Decisions regarding the domestic scheduled operations and the\npossible relaxation in fare capping are subject to the prevailing Covid-19\nsituation, the status of airline operations and passenger demand for air\ntravel.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Fare check Delhi-Mumbai route<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>During April, a fare check on the popular Delhi-Mumbai route\nshowed variations from a low of USD76 to a high of USD97 for one-way economy\ntravel.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>According to a Google flight search, Spicejet filed the\nlowest fare at USD76, but for those who worry about carbon emissions, the\nflight flagged 13% more kgCO2 when compared with the route&#8217;s average of 134\nkgCO2.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Vistara and Indigo, both quoting USD97 fares, operated at\nthe average carbon emission level flying the route. AirAsia quoting a USD96\nfare, scored a minus 29% carbon emission level when compared with the route\naverage, well below all rivals.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Air India quoted a fare of USD94, but the carbon emission\nlevel was the highest of all airlines serving the domestic route at 29% over\nthe average.
