JOHOR BAHRU, Malaysia, 10 April 2026: The Langkawi Development Authority (LADA) strengthened its regional growth strategy on Thursday through a high-impact Business-to-Business (B2B) engagement session at the Grand Paragon Hotel, Johor Bahru.

By bringing together Langkawi’s tourism innovators and key hosted buyers, this initiative serves as a cornerstone of LADA’s mission to elevate the island’s visibility in short-haul markets while fostering the professional collaborations necessary for sustainable tourism growth.

The importance of this engagement is underscored by the deep-rooted travel links between Langkawi and its southern neighbours, which remain vital drivers of the island’s economy. These markets continue to demonstrate remarkable resilience; as of Q3 2025, Langkawi recorded 52,867 visitors from Johor and 48,119 from Singapore. To capitalise on this momentum, the B2B programme serves as a dedicated growth engine, enabling industry players to move beyond general promotion and identify strategic partners to actively expand Langkawi’s marketing reach.

By facilitating these direct, face-to-face engagements, LADA creates a productive environment for business negotiations and the development of joint travel packages. This collaborative approach allows service providers to align their offerings with precision, responding to the evolving demands of modern travellers with greater agility.

As these partnerships solidify, they unlock access to higher-value segments, including the MICE (Meetings, Incentives, Conferences and Exhibitions) sector, premium family travel and niche special-interest groups.

Building on these professional synergies, the resulting cross-border packages further enhance Langkawi’s regional appeal by offering travellers more structured, seamless and value-driven experiences. Such curated offerings provide the commercial depth required to encourage longer stays and drive repeat visitation, which is essential for a sustainable tourism ecosystem. These efforts are aligned with the national agenda, directly supporting the Visit Malaysia 2026 campaign while reinforcing the “Naturally Langkawi” brand on the global stage.

The success of this strategy is further supported by direct connectivity between Langkawi, Johor and Singapore, which remains a key driver of visitor arrivals. When paired with focused promotional efforts, this accessibility ensures Langkawi maintains a strong competitive position within the regional landscape. Collectively, these initiatives represent a significant step towards achieving Langkawi’s target of 3.65 million tourist arrivals by 2026.

BANGKOK, 9 April 2026: As global travellers continue to navigate a complex geopolitical landscape, Thailand stands out as a safe, stable and deeply rewarding destination for visitors from Europe and around the world.

Amid ongoing tensions around the world, the Kingdom continues to offer peace of mind, seamless accessibility, and meaningful travel experiences rooted in culture, wellness and connection.

At a time when travellers are prioritising reassurance alongside inspiration, Thailand’s consistent track record in tourism safety, service excellence, and warm hospitality reinforces its role as a trusted global destination. From first-time visitors to long-standing repeat guests, the country continues to provide a sense of ease, familiarity and genuine welcome that is increasingly valued in today’s travel environment.

A Destination Defined by Stability and Connectivity

Thailand’s geographic position, robust tourism infrastructure, and long-standing reputation for hospitality make it a preferred destination amid global uncertainty. With strong air connectivity from major European hubs and across the Asia-Pacific region, travellers can easily and efficiently reach Thailand.

The country’s well-established safety standards, reliable healthcare system, and diverse quality offerings further reinforce its position as a secure and dependable choice for leisure, family, and business travel.

KUCHING, 8 APRIL 2026: Following a journey through Kuala Lumpur, Osaka, and Mulu, Serumpun Sarawak returns to Kuching for its defining finale at Sarawak Cultural Village.

This final chapter brings together culture, cuisine, and community in an immersive experience that reflects both the platform’s evolution and its next phase.

A fine-dining experience in Serumpun Sarawak is described as a living archive, where culture is not simply displayed but actively practised, shared, and continuously evolved.

More than a showcase, Serumpun Sarawak has evolved into a living platform — one that translates Sarawak’s deep food knowledge, indigenous traditions, and biodiversity into a contemporary experiential format. Its return to Kuching marks a point of convergence, bringing together its journey into a cohesive expression rooted in place, reinforcing Sarawak’s culinary identity as a living system shaped by its people, environment, and traditions.

At its core, Serumpun Sarawak is built on collective custodianship, bringing together chefs, indigenous knowledge holders, farmers, producers, artisans, and cultural practitioners under a shared commitment to preserve, interpret, and elevate Sarawak’s food culture.

Drawing from the state’s ecological and cultural knowledge systems — from forest and river ingredients to fermentation practices — the platform presents cuisine not as static heritage, but as a living, evolving practice.

Guided by Chef James Won as custodian, the Serumpun Sarawak kitchen operates as a collaborative space. This finale edition features collaborating chefs John Lim, Laura Sim, and Robbie Balcarek, who work within Sarawak’s ingredient landscape and cultural context.

The emphasis shifts from individual authorship to shared interpretation, contributing to a wider culinary narrative grounded in place.

Set within the living cultural landscape of Sarawak Cultural Village, the experience unfolds as an integrated journey connecting guests to the land, its people, and its stories.

It begins with a curated exhibition featuring artisans, producers, and cultural practitioners, offering insight into the ecosystem behind Sarawak’s cuisine, before transitioning into a multi-course gastronomic experience where each dish reflects the depth of Sarawak’s biodiversity and cultural memory.

Guided by a hyperlocal philosophy, ingredients are sourced from forests, rivers, and farms, shaped by indigenous knowledge and practices, with each course accompanied by storytelling that reveals the origins, science, and cultural significance behind the ingredients.

Together, the dining and exhibition form what Serumpun Sarawak describes as a living archive, where culture is not simply displayed, but actively practised, shared, and continuously evolved, reinforcing the idea that cuisine does not exist in isolation, but is the result of communities, landscapes, and generations of knowledge working together.

A defining principle of Serumpun Sarawak is its emphasis on shared ownership.

While Chef James Won leads its curation, the platform is intentionally built as a collective movement, ensuring that Multiple voices and perspectives across communities and generations carry forward Sarawak’s food culture.

While this finale marks the culmination of Serumpun Sarawak as a travelling platform, it also signals the beginning of its next phase.

Through mentorship, training, and collaboration, the platform aims to inspire and nurture a new generation of chefs to engage more deeply with Sarawak’s ingredient landscape, encouraging exploration, thoughtful interpretation, and the continued elevation of local produce within contemporary cuisine.

The introduction of its mentee initiative reflects this commitment to continuity, forming part of a broader ecosystem that supports knowledge transfer and long-term development, while ensuring that the platform’s impact extends beyond the experience itself.

This direction is further strengthened by Sarawak’s broader efforts in gastronomy development, including the completion of the Sarawak Gastronomy Centre, which will serve as a dedicated platform to showcase, study, and elevate the state’s culinary identity while supporting the development of future culinary talent.

As Serumpun Sarawak concludes this chapter in Kuching, it stands not only as a culmination but as a foundation for what comes next, positioning cuisine as a means of preserving heritage, sustaining biodiversity, and shaping Sarawak’s evolving cultural narrative.

Through this partnership, Centara and OR will develop a network of budget hotels located adjacent to PTT Station service complexes, creating a convenient and accessible accommodation option for modern travellers.

The collaboration combines Centara’s hospitality expertise with OR’s extensive nationwide network of service stations and lifestyle retail spaces.

The first phase of the project will see the development of six budget hotels across Thailand, with openings planned between 2027 and 2028. The properties will be strategically located in Bangkok, Kanchanaburi, Ayutthaya, Phuket, Chon Buri and Songkhla, targeting travellers moving along major highways and regional transport routes.

Each property will feature approximately 69–80 rooms, with rates expected to start from THB 800–900 per night, while the Bangkok property is planned to offer around 120 rooms with rates of THB 1,200–1,300 per night. Designed to deliver clean, safe and comfortable accommodation at an accessible price point, the hotels will cater primarily to domestic travellers, road trippers and business travellers seeking convenient overnight stays.

The joint venture represents an investment of approximately THB700 million, with Centara holding a 51% stake and OR holding 49%. By leveraging OR’s ecosystem of more than 2,000 PTT Station locations nationwide, the project unlocks new opportunities to serve travellers at highly accessible locations that already offer fuel services and electric-vehicle charging, as well as food and beverage outlets, convenience retail, and rest areas.

The collaboration will also connect and leverage the loyalty programme integration between CentaraThe1, The 1, and OR’s Blue Plus programme. With a collective membership base of more than 40 million, Centara and OR can co-create enhanced benefits, superior experiences, and greater value for customers across both organisations in the future.

“This partnership represents an exciting new chapter for Centara as we expand into the budget hotel segment and continue to diversify our portfolio,” said Centara Hotels & Resorts Chief Executive Officer Thirayuth Chirathivat. “By combining Centara’s hospitality expertise with OR’s nationwide network of high-potential locations, we are creating a new hospitality concept designed to serve modern travellers who value convenience, reliability and exceptional value. With service stations located along major transport routes, this concept will provide travellers with clean, safe, and comfortable accommodation exactly where they need it.”

He added that the concept is designed to meet the needs of travellers commuting by car, including sales professionals, business travellers, and families and friends on road trips seeking short overnight stays during inter-provincial journeys.

The move into the budget segment reflects Centara’s long-term growth strategy to broaden its portfolio across multiple market segments while capturing emerging opportunities within Thailand’s evolving travel landscape. As demand for convenient and affordable accommodation continues to grow, the new brand will complement Centara’s existing portfolio, which spans luxury resorts, upscale hotels, lifestyle properties, and family-focused destinations.

“This partnership marks an important milestone that reflects the combined strengths and expertise of Centara and OR in jointly developing a budget hotel project to respond to evolving travel behaviour in today’s landscape,” said PTT Oil and Retail Business Public Company Limited (OR) Chief Executive Officer Peekthong Thongyai.

“At OR, we see travel not simply as reaching a destination, but as a meaningful experience along the way. This collaboration, therefore, strengthens our OR ecosystem and enables us to better serve modern travellers with a more complete and integrated journey experience.

The fair-exclusive promotion offers up to 40% off. It is available only to visitors who confirm their bookings with participating Sarawak agents at the pavilion during the three-day MATTA Fair in Kuala Lumpur.

Packages secured during the fair will be valid for travel from April until 15 December 2026, allowing travellers to lock in their Sarawak holiday now and plan their trip later within the year.

The travel experiences span multiple regions of Sarawak, reflecting the state’s diverse landscapes and cultures. In Southern Sarawak, Kuching offers heritage streets, vibrant culture and access to wildlife and national parks. Among the highlights is the Rainforest World Music Festival (RWMF) 2026, scheduled from 26 to 28 June 2026 at the Sarawak Cultural Village. Widely regarded as one of Southeast Asia’s most distinctive music festivals, RWMF brings together international and regional musicians, including Dato M Nasir, The Commodores featuring Thomas McClary, and Incognito, alongside immersive daytime workshops, cultural exchanges, and evening performances set against the backdrop of Borneo’s rainforest.

With limited-time savings available only during MATTA Fair, the Sarawak Pavilion offers travellers a compelling opportunity to secure a value-driven holiday while discovering the many sides of Sarawak.

A third-generation hotelier, Handl brings more than three decades of international experience across luxury hotels, resorts, and mixed-use developments. His career spans senior leadership roles with globally recognised brands, including Park Hyatt, The Ritz-Carlton, Aman, and Rosewood, with experience across Asia, the Middle East, and the Americas.

With a professional foundation in food and beverage, Handl combines strong operational expertise with commercial leadership across sales, marketing, and multi-property management. His international upbringing and extensive experience in Asia support a culturally attuned leadership style aligned with the expectations of today’s global luxury traveller.

He joins Dusit from Abu Dhabi National Hotels, where he oversaw a portfolio of 15 properties across 10 international brands, further strengthening his expertise in multi-asset operations, asset management, and brand positioning in complex, competitive markets.

His appointment comes at a pivotal time for Dusit, as the company builds on the early success of its reimagined flagship hotel, which reopened in September 2024 following a complete redevelopment that honours the original property’s rich heritage. Since then, it has already received a Michelin Key for its accommodations and service, and a Michelin Star for its signature restaurant, Cannubi by Umberto Bombana.

Dusit is now preparing for the phased introduction of its branded residences, Dusit Residences and Dusit Parkside, at Dusit Central Park. These offer two distinct luxury living concepts within the same tower overlooking Lumpini Park, combining classic, heritage-inspired luxury residences with contemporary, lifestyle-led living. Unit transfers are expected to unlock significant value for the company.

KUCHING, 2 April 2026: As regional travel within ASEAN continues to gain momentum, Sarawak Tourism Board (STB) participated in the NATAS Travel Fair from 27 to 29 March at the Singapore EXPO, reinforcing Sarawak’s presence in one of its key ASEAN markets.

STB reported that the event strengthened engagement with Singaporean outbound travellers, presenting Sarawak’s diverse travel experiences and connecting directly with travel partners to offer curated holiday packages to the destination.

STB was joined by co-exhibitors EU Holidays Pte Ltd, Meidi Travel Solutions Pte Ltd, and Azza Travel & Tours Pte Ltd, providing travellers with convenient access to Sarawak travel packages and on-site travel-planning support during the fair.

Singapore remains one of Sarawak’s key regional markets. In 2025, Sarawak recorded 64,295 visitor arrivals from Singapore, marking a 7.53% year-on-year increase and the highest Singapore arrivals recorded to date.

Participation in the NATAS Travel Fair 2026 should support marketing efforts to reach the 2026 target of 69,000 visitor arrivals from Singapore.

“Singapore has consistently demonstrated a strong interest in Sarawak, and the steady growth in arrivals reflects the appeal of our diverse offerings, from culture and heritage to food, nature and adventure.

Our presence at the NATAS Travel Fair allowed us to showcase the breadth of experiences across Southern, Central and Northern Sarawak. NATAS Travel Fair provides a valuable platform

for us to engage directly with consumers at the point where travel decisions are being made,” said Sarawak Tourism Board Chief Executive Officer Dr Sharzede Datu Haji Salleh Askor.

Three gateways

Singapore enjoys direct air connectivity to Sarawak’s three main gateways — Kuching, Sibu and Miri — enabling convenient access to the state’s Southern, Central and Northern regions, each offering distinct travel experiences. Direct services operated by AirAsia and Scoot connect Singapore to Sarawak’s key entry points, supporting seamless travel across the destination and enhancing access for visitors from the Singapore market.

South Sarawak

Southern Sarawak, via Kuching, blends heritage, culture and nature. The region is home to the Sarawak Delta Geopark. This landscape brings together coastal ecosystems, rainforest habitats and cultural sites, including Bako National Park, Semenggoh Wildlife Centre and the Sarawak Cultural Village, alongside major cultural institutions such as the Borneo Cultures Museum. Kuching also offers a vibrant food scene recognised under its designation as a UNESCO Creative City of Gastronomy, with iconic dishes such as Laksa Sarawak, Kolo Mee and an abundance of fresh seafood. The city is also home to signature events, including the 2026 Rainforest World Music Festival (RWMF).

Central Sarawak

Central Sarawak, accessible via Sibu and extending to areas such as Mukah and Sarikei, offers river-based travel experiences along the Rajang River, visits to traditional longhouses and immersive community-based cultural encounters. The region is also known for Sibu’s Foochow culinary heritage and Sarikei’s reputation as Sarawak’s “Pineapple Town.”

North Sarawak

Northern Sarawak, via Miri, provides access to Sarawak’s two UNESCO World Heritage Sites — Gunung Mulu National Park and Niah National Park — recognised for their remarkable

limestone cave systems, biodiversity and archaeological significance. The region also offers access to the cool highland landscapes of Bario in the Kelabit Highlands.

KUCHING, 1 April 2026: Sarawak will host the 3rd Southeast Asian Tourist Guides Conference 2026 from 13 to 15 October 2026 at Kingwood Hotel in Sibu, strengthening ASEAN guiding standards and positioning Sarawak as an impact-driven business events destination.

Following the success of the inaugural conference in Kuching in 2024, and in conjunction with Visit Malaysia Year 2026, the upcoming conference is expected to attract 1,000 delegates from across Southeast Asia. Organised by the Sarawak Tourist Guides Association in collaboration with the Malaysian Tourist Guides Council and supported by Business Events Sarawak (BESarawak), the conference will serve as a strategic intervention to address challenges in the tourist guiding industry and enhance collaboration among tourism frontliners in Southeast Asia.

Under the Post COVID-19 Development Strategy 2030, Sarawak targets a 7.5% annual growth in visitor arrivals by 2030. Achieving this will depend not only on attracting visitors but on delivering quality experiences. Tourist guides play a critical role in ensuring that this growth translates into real value, sustainability, and meaningful impact. However, the profession is facing increasing challenges, including the rise of digital and AI-driven travel tools, evolving visitor expectations, and a shortage of qualified guides.

“Sarawak is setting its sights on welcoming 5 million visitors by 2026 — but beyond the numbers, our priority is ensuring the quality of experience we deliver,” said Sarawak’s Deputy Minister for Creative Industry and Performing Arts, Datuk Snowdan Lawan. “Tourist guides are storytellers, cultural ambassadors, and the frontline of how our destination is understood and remembered.

“Sustaining this growth requires a highly skilled, future-ready tourism workforce. That is why we are positioning this conference as a dedicated platform for learning and professional development, while accelerating the training of new Registered Regional Specific Tourist Guides and Sarawak Park Guides to build a strong, resilient talent pipeline for the future,” the Deputy Minister continued.

“The role of a tourist guide is becoming more demanding in a fast-changing, digital world. This conference focuses on strengthening regional networks and building meaningful collaborations to elevate the profession,” said Sarawak Tourist Guides Association Honorary Chairman Edwin Lim. “We have chosen Sibu as the host city to support inclusive tourism development, creating opportunities and sharing the benefits of tourism and business events across Sarawak. Through this, we aim to create impact beyond Sarawak and contribute to the growth of Malaysia’s and Southeast Asia’s tourism.”

“Business events today must deliver more than attendance. They must deliver impact,” commented BESarawak Acting Chief Executive Officer Jason Tan Chin Foo. “Regional collaboration among tourist guides is key to that impact. Through this conference, we are strengthening legacy outcomes and advancing a high-value tourism economy while positioning Sarawak as the legacy capital of business events in Malaysia and Borneo.”

As part of the conference programme, delegates will take part in an immersive outdoor learning experience, including a cultural exchange that offers firsthand insight into community-based tourism. This allows domestic and international tourist guides to understand better their role in preserving cultural identity and delivering respectful, authentic experiences.

The 3rd Southeast Asian Tourist Guides Conference 2026 is organised by the Sarawak Tourist Guides Association in collaboration with the Malaysian Tourist Guides Council, and supported by Business Events Sarawak (BESarawak).
