While Qatar Airways Holidays continues to offer its popular Formula 1 packages featuring flights, accommodation and race tickets, the new Stopover packages introduce an additional way for travellers across the Qatar Airways network to experience the Formula 1 Qatar Airways Qatar Grand Prix 2026 as part of their journey, whether travelling to Doha for business or leisure.

To book the new Stopover packages, customers need to make sure their search dates fall between 27 and 29 November 2026. After selecting their flights and preferred hotels, the three-day race ticket will be included in their package.

ABU DHABI, UAE, 18 August 2026: Etihad Airways has confirmed a new seasonal service between Abu Dhabi and Gothenburg will start 17 December 2026, offering four weekly flights until 21 March 2027.

Departures are scheduled for Tuesday, Thursday, Saturday and Sunday from Abu Dhabi using A321LR aircraft for the seven-hour and 35-minute flight to Gothenburg.

The new service will create Gothenburg’s first direct air link to the Middle East and Asia, connecting Sweden’s west coast directly with Abu Dhabi and providing some of the fastest one-stop journeys to sought-after destinations across India and Asia through Etihad’s Abu Dhabi hub.

Abu Dhabi offers an extraordinary variety of experiences. Visitors can kayak through the mangroves at Jubail, explore the museums of the Saadiyat Cultural District and the Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque, relax on the beaches of the Arabian Gulf, or experience the attractions of Yas Island.

Etihad’s complimentary Abu Dhabi Stopover programme allows eligible guests connecting through the city to add a hotel stay of up to two nights, turning their connection into a chance to experience the capital.

For travellers from Gothenburg, the evening arrival in Abu Dhabi also opens Etihad’s onward network across Asia. Onward services include Bangkok, Phuket, Krabi, Singapore, Hanoi, Bali, Shanghai, Taipei, Bengaluru, and Colombo.

Gothenburg is the 15th destination launched in 2026. The route will be served by Airbus A321LR, the newest aircraft in Etihad’s fleet, configured with two First Suites, 14 business seats and 144 in economy. First and business feature fully flat beds with direct aisle access, and economy features ergonomic seating with 13.3-inch 4K touchscreen displays with hundreds of hours of films, television and music on demand. High-speed Wi-Fi is available across all cabins.

Travelling the other way, Gothenburg is Scandinavia at its most characterful. Sweden’s second largest city sits where the Göta River meets the sea, with an archipelago a short ferry ride from the centre, seafood markets, the Christmas lights at Liseberg and the wooden streets of the Haga district.

Etihad Airways Chief Executive Officer, Antonoaldo Neves, said: “The A321LR is the aircraft that makes a route like this possible, bringing our full three-cabin product on a scale that suits Gothenburg. It is a city Scandinavia is rightly proud of, a centre of industry and research with an archipelago at its door. This new service gives the region its first direct air link to Asia and, through Abu Dhabi, some of the fastest connections to key destinations across India and Asia. It also allows travellers to experience Abu Dhabi itself before continuing their journey”

Bookings opened on 12 August on the airline’s website.

Flight schedule

EY175 departs Abu Dhabi (ABU) at 0250 and arrives in Gothenburg (GOT) at 0725 (Tuesday, Thursday, Saturday and Sunday).
EY176 departs Gothenburg (GOT) at 0910 and arrives in Abu Dhabi (ABU) at 1855.

SINGAPORE, 18 August 2026: Riyadh Air, Saudi Arabia’s new full-service national carrier, has expanded its international network to South Asia following its inaugural flight to Pakistan’s Islamabad International Airport (ISB) on 14 August.

The daily capital-to-capital service between King Khalid International Airport (RUH) in Riyadh and Islamabad International Airport (ISB) will be operated across two flight timings: RX0659, departing Riyadh at 1345 four times a week on Sundays, Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays; and RX0661, departing Riyadh at 2010 three times a week on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays.

Flight RX0675 from Riyadh (RUH) to Lahore (LHE), scheduled to begin on 18 August, will operate three times a week at 1340 on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays. All times are local. Riyadh Air’s Boeing 787-9 Dreamliners will serve the new routes, featuring the airline’s latest cabin interiors and onboard experience.

To mark the launch, inaugural ceremonies were held at both King Khalid International Airport (RUH) and Islamabad International Airport (ISB). The Riyadh ceremony was attended by H.E. Ahmed Farooq, Pakistan’s Ambassador to the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, and Mr Osamah Alfawaz, Acting Chief Executive Officer of Riyadh Airports Company.

The direct services between Riyadh and Pakistan’s major urban centres reflect the longstanding and close relationship between the two countries.

With over 2 million Pakistani expatriates contributing across Saudi Arabia’s healthcare, technology, finance, and construction sectors, as well as thousands of pilgrims travelling annually to Saudi Arabia for religious travel, the route addresses a vital need for reliable, direct connectivity.

BANGKOK, 17 August 2026: Asia Aviation Public Company Limited, the parent company of Thai AirAsia, has released its financial and operational performance for the second quarter of 2026 (“2Q26”).

An unprecedented 124% jump in jet fuel prices to USD183 per barrel pushed total fuel expenses up 43% YoY to THB5 billion. Even under this heavy cost pressure environment, TAA achieved an Earnings Before Interest, Taxes, Depreciation, and Amortisation (EBITDA) breakeven of THB25 million.

Net loss was THB2,326 million, including a foreign exchange loss of THB293 million. Core operating loss for the quarter was THB2,091 million. Overall, 1H2026 core loss was THB440 million.

Despite elevated global fuel price spikes and the regional low-travel season, the airline acted quickly to protect margins by cutting excess capacity and raising ticket yields.

Revenue from sales and services rose 2% year-on-year to THB10,046 million while ticket revenue grew 6% YoY to THB8,575 million. TAA intentionally trimmed seat capacity by 13% YoY to 5.14 million seats, focusing on core markets. Average fares surged 27% YoY, covering half of the fuel price inflation while keeping guest traffic steady at 4.03 million passengers.

On cost control, TAA reinforced AirAsia’s low-cost DNA by delivering an absolute reduction in non-fuel operating expenses. Selling and administrative expenses reduced by 17% YoY and staff costs reduced by 12% YoY. While ex-fuel absolute costs fell 8% YoY through cost discipline, cost per unit excluding fuel (“CASK ex-fuel”) rose 13% YoY to THB1.43.

Operational performance improved sharply with On-Time Performance (OTP) rebounding to 88%. TAA also retained its position as Thailand’s top domestic airline with a leading 37% market share and an 80% domestic load factor. To secure liquidity, TAA successfully raised THB 3,815 million through a new debenture issuance in June 2026, keeping its net interest-bearing debt-to-equity ratio low at 1.1x.

AAV and Thai AirAsia Chief Executive Officer Phairat Pornpathananangoon said: “We made a decisive move in 2Q26 to prioritise yield quality and liquidity during a global fuel crisis. By focusing on profitable routes, we proved the power of our brand and pricing leadership, holding an 80% domestic load factor even as average fares increased.

“Looking ahead to 2H2026, TAA is set to rebound as fuel prices stabilise from their peak levels. The airline will keep tight capacity control through Q3 before ramping up operating fleet deployment to 52 aircraft in Q4 to capture peak year-end holiday demand. TAA will reopen suspended international routes while strengthening flight frequencies across its Bangkok Don Mueang and Suvarnabhumi hubs. The airline will also tap into upcoming government tourism schemes and major international events to boost passenger traffic. Fuel risk remains managed with 13% of 3Q26 fuel needs locked in at USD 89 per barrel. TAA expects to return to profitability as peak travel season returns in the last quarter of the year.”

SINGAPORE, 17 August 2026: Vietjet has been voted “Best Cabin Crew Uniform” at the 2026 Flyers’ Choice Awards organised by AirlineRatings, while also being named as “Favourite Low-Cost Carrier”, securing the top spot in both categories following a global traveller vote.

AirlineRatings CEO Sharon Petersen said: “Winning two categories marks an important tipping point for Vietjet. The airline is now firmly recognised on the global stage, with its uniform playing a key role in that recognition. Unique, fun and instantly recognisable, it leaves a lasting impression long after the flight. The Flyers’ Choice win for best cabin crew uniform reinforces this. “

Created by European designers, Vietjet’s cabin crew uniform features the airline’s signature red and combines youthful energy with inspiration from youth cadet attire.

Vietjet has consistently maintained AirlineRatings’ highest seven-star safety rating and has been recognised among the world’s safest airlines for many consecutive years. The airline has also received international recognition from CAPA, the World Travel Awards, Skytrax, and other organisations for its safety, service, customer experience, and brand value.

From its home base in Vietnam, Vietjet continues to expand across the Asia-Pacific region and into new international markets, bringing its brand to more travellers worldwide. From Singapore, Vietjet currently flies direct to Hanoi, Ho Chi Minh City, Da Nang and Phu Quoc, with a new direct service to Nha Trang scheduled to commence in December 2026.

The annual Flyers’ Choice Awards are the only AirlineRatings awards determined entirely by travellers. With around 40,000 verified votes cast in 2026, the awards provide direct insight into the airlines earning travellers’ confidence and loyalty.

Connecting Vietnam with Australia’s newest international airport, Vietjet confirms a direct Ho Chi Minh City–Western Sydney service is scheduled to start on 9 January 2027, making it one of the first airlines to provide international connectivity to Australia’s newest airport.

Operating two return services per week, the route will connect Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam’s leading economic hub, with Western Sydney, one of Australia’s fastest-growing regions. The service is expected to support greater movement of travellers and goods while contributing to the expansion of tourism, trade and investment links between Vietnam and Australia.

To mark the launch, Vietjet offers a 20% discount on base fares for Deluxe, SkyBoss, and Business classes across all direct Vietnam–Australia routes, available with promo code VJAUS20 for bookings from now until the end of 16 August. Travel period is from 7 September 2026 to 31 March 2027 (Excluding peak travel periods and public holidays. Blackout dates may apply.

Vietjet CEO Nguyen Thanh Son said: “Vietjet is proud to be the first airline to connect Vietnam with Western Sydney – Australia’s newest international aviation gateway and an emerging centre of economic growth. Every new route brings our two countries closer while opening new opportunities for tourism, trade, investment, knowledge exchange and wider cooperation. With our expanding network, modern fleet and quality services, Vietjet looks forward to supporting stronger, more productive and sustainable ties between Vietnam and Australia.”

Welcoming Vietjet to Sydney’s new international gateway, Western Sydney International Airport CEO Simon Hickey said: “We’re thrilled that tickets are on sale today for the initial services set to commence in January 2027. Western Sydney is one of the nation’s most diverse and rapidly growing regions that is proudly home to more than half of Greater Sydney’s Vietnamese population – over 70,000 people – who regularly visit friends and relatives.”

WSI is Australia’s first major international greenfield airport development in more than 50 years and a new 24-hour global gateway for Sydney. The airport is a major catalyst for growth and investment in the Western Sydney Aerotropolis, an emerging hub for advanced manufacturing, logistics, technology and industry. WSI is planned to eventually accommodate around 80 million passengers annually.

Australia is one of Vietjet’s strategic international markets. With its network connecting Vietnam to Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane, Perth, and now Western Sydney, Vietjet continues to expand its presence in Australia, providing travellers, communities, and businesses with greater choice, convenient connectivity, and affordable fares.

Beyond connecting cities, Vietjet’s expanding international network brings people and economies closer together, strengthening Vietnam’s connections with the world and opening new opportunities for travel, trade and growth.
