KUCHING, SARAWAK, 24 APRIL 2026: Sarawak has won hosting rights for the 11th Asia Pacific Regional Conference 2028 (APRC 2028) of the International Union Against Tuberculosis and Lung Disease, marking a significant milestone in the destination’s continued rise as the legacy capital of business events in Malaysia and Borneo.

Scheduled for 23 to 26 March 2028 in Kuching, in conjunction with World Tuberculosis Day, the conference is expected to attract over 1,000 delegates from across the Asia Pacific (APAC) region, generating an estimated total economic impact of MYR8.2 million. It will be the first time APRC is hosted in Borneo and the second time in Malaysia since Kuala Lumpur in 2007.

Tuberculosis remains one of the world’s most urgent public health challenges, driven by the rise of drug-resistant strains, delayed diagnoses, treatment adherence gaps, persistent stigma, and unequal access to healthcare. Across the Asia-Pacific, the diversity of healthcare systems further complicates coordinated control efforts.

In Sarawak, efforts to strengthen early detection and access to care are already underway, including the adoption of portable handheld X-ray technology by the Bintulu Divisional Health Office to enhance tuberculosis screening, particularly in reaching underserved and remote communities. However, scaling these efforts across the region requires stronger collaboration, innovation, and knowledge exchange.

APRC 2028 will respond to this need by bringing together global and regional leaders to accelerate practical solutions in prevention, diagnosis, and treatment, while strengthening partnerships across borders and sectors.

“APRC 2028 directly supports Sarawak’s Post COVID-19 Development Strategy 2030, where healthcare is not only about treatment, but about equity and inclusion. The Sarawak government’s support towards APRC 2028 is our commitment to ensuring that Sarawak’s healthcare system is inclusive, accessible, and leaves no one behind,” said

Deputy Premier and Minister of Public Health, Housing, and Local Government, Sarawak, Datuk Amar Prof Dr Sim Kui Hian.

“Better prevention and control of tuberculosis and other lung diseases require strong collaboration between government, academia and communities to improve access, strengthen awareness, and build trust. This is critical in addressing stigma, ensuring people feel safe and supported to seek early diagnosis and treatment.”

“We want to bridge science, policy, and practice for a tuberculosis-free future and better lung health for all, hence the APRC 2028 will feature a large-scale programme with workshops, plenaries, symposiums, and community outreach sessions to include all segments of society. We believe that everyone – government, associations, industry, academia and local communities – can be advocates for a tuberculosis-free future,” said the Organising Chairman of APRC 2028 and member of the Malaysian Association for the Prevention of Tuberculosis (MAPTB), Prof Dato Dr Abdul Razak bin Abdul Muttalif.

“Winning APRC 2028 reflects Sarawak’s growing reputation as the legacy capital of business events in Malaysia and Borneo,” said Business Events Sarawak (BESarawak) Acting Chief Executive Officer Jason Tan Chin Foo. “With strong government backing under the Post COVID-19 Development Strategy 2030 and BESarawak’s legacy framework, we are committed to ensuring that APRC 2028 delivers meaningful legacy outcomes. By convening global experts and stakeholders, the conference will catalyse advancing solutions to critical health challenges, particularly tuberculosis, while contributing to long-term development goals aligned with national priorities and the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals.”

APRC 2028 is organised by the Malaysian Association for the Prevention of Tuberculosis (MAPTB) in collaboration with the Sarawak State Health Department, Malaysian Thoracic Association, the Anti-Tuberculosis Association of Sarawak (ATAS), and Universiti Malaysia Sarawak (UNIMAS). APRC 2028 is supported by the Ministry of Public Health, Housing and Local Government, Sarawak and Business Events Sarawak (BESarawak).

DUBAI, UAE, 22 April 2026: Emirates has continued its commitment to making travel more accessible for all by successfully arranging bespoke Emirates Travel Rehearsals across more than 40 cities globally over the past year.

With more than 250 families positively impacted, Emirates Travel Rehearsals are designed to support children and young adults with autism by allowing them to practice the journey through the airport to prepare for real flights — easing travel anxiety and empowering them to fly with greater confidence.

After the initial Emirates Travel Rehearsals in Dubai received positive feedback from families, schools and autism organisations, the Emirates Office of Accessibility & Inclusion developed the travel rehearsal into an official programme to be rolled out across its global network.

Since April 2025, Emirates’ Airport Services teams have come together to arrange more than 40 of these travel rehearsals across airports like Accra, Athens, Bali, Bangalore, Barcelona, Bologna, Brussels, Cairo, Christchurch, Da Nang, Delhi, Dubai, Dublin, Durban, Düsseldorf, Edinburgh, Glasgow, Guangzhou, Hanoi, Harare, Hong Kong, Istanbul, London, Luanda, Madrid, Mauritius, Milan, Newcastle, Nice, Orlando, Oslo, Paris, Peshawar, Port Luis, Rome, Stansted, Stockholm, Sydney, Toronto, Trivandrum, Venice and Vienna.

More than 35,000 Emirates staff have been trained to support customers with autism and can help facilitate travel and Travel Rehearsals. Emirates teams work very closely with airport authorities and partners to make sure each rehearsal is a supportive and successful experience for the families.

Emirates Airport Services Outstation & Business Support Senior Vice President, Sami Aqil Abdullah commented: “The Emirates Travel Rehearsal programme has been a resounding success across six continents, with impressive collaboration and drive shown by all stakeholders, from our own Emirates teams to our airport partners, and the parents and teachers who trusted us to support their children. We will continue to amplify this success with more locations, more teams involved, and more families positively impacted and empowered to fly with confidence.”

What is an Emirates Travel Rehearsal?

As the world’s first autism certified airline, Emirates is aware that for many families, international air travel is a highly challenging experience, or something to be avoided completely due to the high level of sensory stimuli that is involved. A survey on AutismTravel.com revealed that 78% of families are hesitant to travel or visit new locations for these reasons. For many people with autism, planning and predictability are critical – and an airport represents a world of unknown processes and stimuli.

Emirates Travel Rehearsals are a purposeful community collaboration and learning exercise arranged by Emirates, with the support of international airport teams, Border Control and Security teams, and schools and centres for autism across the world. The travel rehearsals empower neurodivergent people to participate in a real-time journey through the airport, practising the actions of checking in, dropping baggage, going through immigration and security, and experiencing the hustle and bustle of retail and dining areas. While familiarising themselves with the airport, participants are also issued mock boarding passes and given the chance to meet the many uniformed staff encountered along the way. In some airports, Emirates’ teams managed to arrange access to real aircraft for the children and young adults.

Positive feedback from participants

Now on an international level, parents, therapists, teachers, young adults, and children involved in the travel rehearsals so far have reported to Emirates that the experience has been invaluable in helping them have a safe and successful flight, by offering the comfort of preparation and familiarity, as well as trained staff to support.

Emirates will continue to arrange Travel Rehearsals across its global network throughout 2026, inviting more schools and centres to participate.

SINGAPORE, 20 APRIL 2026: Sarawak Tourism Board reinforced its successful three-day presence at the 38th Travel Malaysia Fair 2026, underscoring Singapore’s role as a key tourism hub in Southeast Asia.

As a highly connected tourism gateway with a diverse and globally mobile population, Singapore serves as a strategic platform for engaging travellers already exploring the region, thereby extending Sarawak’s reach beyond a single-source market to a wider pool of international and regional visitors seeking short-haul experiences.

The fair provided a successful platform to showcase Sarawak’s five pillars (Culture, Adventure, Nature, Food, Festivals).

As one of Sarawak’s most vital regional source markets, Singapore recorded a 7.53% year-on-year increase in visitor arrivals in 2025, reflecting sustained demand that supports year-round visitation and repeat travel to the state.

Throughout the fair, held last week, STB highlighted Sarawak’s diverse pillars of Culture, Adventure, Nature, Food, and Festivals (CANFF), alongside collaborations with Singapore-based travel partners offering curated itineraries tailored to evolving traveller preferences.

Rainforest World Music Festival

A central highlight of the showcase was the Rainforest World Music Festival (RWMF) 2026, presented as one of Sarawak’s defining cultural experiences. Taking place from 26 to 28 June 2026 at the Sarawak Cultural Village, the festival is set to feature an extraordinary lineup of guest performers and artistes:

• 26 June: Malaysian legend Dato M Nasir, renowned for blending traditional Malay elements with contemporary sounds.

• 27 June: Funk and soul icons The Commodores, featuring Thomas McClary, performing timeless hits like Easy and Brick House.

• 28 June: The internationally acclaimed Incognito, led by Jean-Paul “Bluey” Maunick, is bringing their signature groove-based soul and funk rhythms.

To capture immediate interest in the Singapore market, travellers are encouraged to secure pre-sale tickets, available until 26 June 2026.

Pre-sale 1-Day Passes are priced at MYR283 for adults and MYR80 for children (ages 3–12), while children below three years old enjoy free entry.

Festivalgoers can secure their tickets through the official festival website at rwmf.net or via the official ticketing platform Ticketmelon (RAINFOREST WORLD MUSIC FESTIVAL (RWMF) 2026 – Ticketmelon).

Buy Now Pay Later (BNPL) options are available through digital platforms such as Atome, Grab PayLater, and Shopee PayLater, making it easier for festivalgoers to plan their visit. With over 200 performers from 13 countries, festivalgoers are urged to secure these preferred rates early to enjoy the best value for this award-winning international event.

Beyond event-led tourism, the fair provided a platform to present a holistic view of Sarawak’s heritage and nature-based attractions across the gateways of Kuching, Sibu, and Miri. With seamless direct flight connectivity from Singapore, Sarawak continues to offer an accessible and distinct gateway to the wonders of Borneo.

“Singapore continues to play an important role as a regional gateway, bringing together travellers from across different markets who are seeking deeper and more meaningful experiences. Through platforms such as the Travel Malaysia Fair, we can share what makes Sarawak distinctive, from our cultural diversity to signature events like the Rainforest World Music Festival, while supporting the broader aspirations of Visit Malaysia Year 2026,” said STB CEO Dr Sharzede Datu Haji Salleh Askor.

STB’s participation in the Travel Malaysia Fair is part of its broader efforts to support Visit Malaysia Year 2026, contributing to a broader national narrative that highlights Malaysia’s diversity through experience-led tourism. By foregrounding signature events such as RWMF within regional platforms, Sarawak continues to shape how Malaysia is experienced as a destination defined by culture, nature, and connection.

SINGAPORE, 17 April 2026: Sarawak’s travel pavilion at The Meetings Show Asia Pacific (TMS APAC) showcased its meeting and events for event planners in the Asia Pacific market for the third consecutive year.

The show was held at Marina Bay Sands in Singapore from 14 to 15 April, with the Sarawak Pavilion bringing its “Driving Impact Together” brand promise to life by placing local enterprise at the centre, serving as a strategic showcase.

Sarawak-based brands engaged international audiences, forged meaningful partnerships, and expanded their presence in new markets at the prestigious trade show.

The decision to participate in TMS APAC was supported by a positive regional market backdrop, with strong growth across key Asia-Pacific markets, including Singapore, which recorded a 76.22% increase in visitor arrivals in February 2026.

This momentum is further reinforced by Sarawak’s efforts to strengthen regional accessibility, including the establishment of AirBorneo, positioned as a strategic enabler to enhance connectivity, unlock new market access, and elevate Sarawak’s competitiveness within the Asia Pacific business events landscape.

“A clear regional strategy drives our return,” said The Honourable Datuk Snowdan Lawan, Deputy Minister for Creative Industry and Performing Arts Sarawak, who is leading the Sarawak delegation. “Asia Pacific is a priority growth market for us. Our participation at TMS APAC reflects our focus on engaging the right markets and strengthening partnerships that will support Sarawak’s long-term growth in business events.”

“We are witnessing a growing alignment between global demand and what Sarawak offers, from sector expertise to collaborative ecosystems,” said Datu Hii Chang Kee, Deputy State Secretary and Chairman of Business Events Sarawak (BESarawak). “Our presence at the show is about capturing that demand and translating it into sustained value for our industries and communities.”

“Sarawak is increasingly being viewed as a strategic partner of choice,” said Jason Tan Chin Foo, Acting Chief Executive Officer of BESarawak. “Our focus on legacy-driven business events, and our deliberate efforts to drive impact with stakeholders and communities, are driving our ambition forward as the legacy capital of business events in Malaysia and Borneo.”

As Sarawak continues to deepen its footprint in the Asia Pacific, its presence at TMS APAC reflects a clear ambition to move beyond visibility and towards value. At the heart of this approach is a united ecosystem that showcases the full strength of the destination.

The Sarawak Pavilion presented a cross-section of industry players from Kuching, Sibu and Miri — Borneo Convention Centre Kuching, Cat City Holidays, Grand Margherita Hotel, Kuching Events Rental, Miri Marriott Resort & Spa, Mulu Marriott Resort & Spa, Pullman Kuching Hotel, Pullman Miri Waterfront Hotel, RH Hotel, Sheraton Kuching Hotel, Team Magnifico, Techno Expo, and voco Kuching by IHG.

The pavilion also expressed Sarawak’s identity through an experiential gastronomic journey. The Bibber’s Tale led as the official beverage partner, serving Sarawak’s iconic three-layer tea alongside handcrafted drinks made from native ingredients. At the same time, KANTIN, with a presence in both Kuching and Singapore, returned with the beloved Sarawak Laksa.

Together, this participation demonstrated how collaboration among different stakeholders and community players turns every engagement into an opportunity for lasting impact, aligned with Sarawak’s Post-COVID-19 Development Strategy 2030.

Led by Asian Trails’ Director of Sales for the French and Benelux markets, Pankaj Patpatia, the journey showcased the island’s natural beauty and rich heritage, including the UNESCO-listed rice terraces of Jatiluwih, travelling in vintage Volkswagen Kübelwagens for a nostalgic touch, before enjoying a scenic lunch in a tranquil bamboo forest.

A full day in a traditional village allowed participants to connect more closely with local life, gaining insight into daily routines and time-honoured practices such as rice cultivation and coconut oil production — experiences that can be seamlessly integrated into bespoke client journeys.

The programme concluded with a catamaran cruise to Lembongan Island, where crystal-clear waters and a laid-back coastal atmosphere provided the perfect finale.

This trip not only strengthened product knowledge and partner collaboration but also equipped agents with authentic, experience-led insights, enabling them to inspire clients with culturally rich journeys to Bali, the Island of the Gods.

JOHOR BAHRU, Malaysia, 10 April 2026: The Langkawi Development Authority (LADA) strengthened its regional growth strategy on Thursday through a high-impact Business-to-Business (B2B) engagement session at the Grand Paragon Hotel, Johor Bahru.

By bringing together Langkawi’s tourism innovators and key hosted buyers, this initiative serves as a cornerstone of LADA’s mission to elevate the island’s visibility in short-haul markets while fostering the professional collaborations necessary for sustainable tourism growth.

The importance of this engagement is underscored by the deep-rooted travel links between Langkawi and its southern neighbours, which remain vital drivers of the island’s economy. These markets continue to demonstrate remarkable resilience; as of Q3 2025, Langkawi recorded 52,867 visitors from Johor and 48,119 from Singapore. To capitalise on this momentum, the B2B programme serves as a dedicated growth engine, enabling industry players to move beyond general promotion and identify strategic partners to actively expand Langkawi’s marketing reach.

By facilitating these direct, face-to-face engagements, LADA creates a productive environment for business negotiations and the development of joint travel packages. This collaborative approach allows service providers to align their offerings with precision, responding to the evolving demands of modern travellers with greater agility.

As these partnerships solidify, they unlock access to higher-value segments, including the MICE (Meetings, Incentives, Conferences and Exhibitions) sector, premium family travel and niche special-interest groups.

Building on these professional synergies, the resulting cross-border packages further enhance Langkawi’s regional appeal by offering travellers more structured, seamless and value-driven experiences. Such curated offerings provide the commercial depth required to encourage longer stays and drive repeat visitation, which is essential for a sustainable tourism ecosystem. These efforts are aligned with the national agenda, directly supporting the Visit Malaysia 2026 campaign while reinforcing the “Naturally Langkawi” brand on the global stage.

The success of this strategy is further supported by direct connectivity between Langkawi, Johor and Singapore, which remains a key driver of visitor arrivals. When paired with focused promotional efforts, this accessibility ensures Langkawi maintains a strong competitive position within the regional landscape. Collectively, these initiatives represent a significant step towards achieving Langkawi’s target of 3.65 million tourist arrivals by 2026.
