KUCHING, 3 June 2026: Sarawak Tourism Board (STB) and Royal Brunei Airlines (RB) have formalised a strategic partnership through the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) during last week’s ITB China 2026.

The collaboration reflects both parties’ commitment towards strengthening accessibility in Sarawak while supporting broader efforts to position the destination as the Gateway to Borneo.

The partnership also highlights the growing importance of regional collaboration in supporting tourism growth, improving travel accessibility, and strengthening destination visibility across international markets.

The MoU was signed by Dr Sharzede Datu Haji Salleh Askor, Chief Executive Officer of STB, and Yang Mulia Puan Colonel Norsuriati Haji Sharbini, Interim Chief Executive Officer of RB. The signing was witnessed by Dylan Redas Noel, STB Marketing Director of North Asia and New Markets, and Alirahim Haji Abdul Rani, Manager Integrated Marketing of RB, representing STB and RB, respectively.

The ceremony was held in the presence of Dato Dennis Ngau, Chairman of STB, and Song Kai, President of Beijing Longway International Travel, RB General Sales Agent in the People’s Republic of China, as well as tourism industry stakeholders and trade partners in Shanghai.

Dr Sharzede said connectivity continues to play an important role in supporting tourism growth and strengthening how destinations position themselves within the increasingly competitive global travel landscape.

“Strategic collaborations such as this are important in strengthening accessibility, enhancing destination visibility, and creating greater opportunities to encourage travel into Sarawak and the wider Borneo region. As the Gateway to Borneo, connectivity remains an important component in supporting our ongoing tourism growth and international outreach efforts,” she said.

The partnership comes at a strategic time as STB continues to strengthen its tourism engagement efforts across China and North Asia through targeted destination marketing initiatives, trade collaborations, and consumer engagement programmes.

Through this collaboration with RB, both parties will strategically advance tourism promotion initiatives while enhancing seamless travel access into Sarawak. This partnership underscores a shared commitment to elevating Sarawak’s global presence, strengthening regional connectivity, and positioning the destination as a compelling gateway to Borneo’s rich and diverse experiences.

Yang Mulia Puan Colonel Norsuriati binti Haji Sharbini, Interim Chief Executive Officer of RB, noted: “We are pleased to strengthen our collaboration with Sarawak Tourism Board and our valued partners in China, as we continue to build on a long-standing relationship rooted in shared growth and connectivity. China remains a key market for Royal Brunei Airlines and the wider Borneo region, and together we see strong opportunities to position Brunei and Sarawak further as

compelling destinations for travellers seeking authentic cultural, nature, and wellness experiences.

Through our established network and ongoing partnerships, we remain committed to enhancing regional access and welcoming more visitors to discover the richness and diversity of Borneo.”

Separately, STB recently launched its first Campus Roadshow & Student Engagement Programme in collaboration with Qunar at Zhejiang International Studies University in China. The initiative was

aimed at introducing Sarawak to university students and young travellers through interactive tourism showcases and engagement activities highlighting the destination’s culture, adventure, nature, food, and festivals. Together, the MoU with RB and STB’s recent engagement initiatives in China reflect a broader strategy to strengthen Sarawak’s international market presence through connectivity, destination visibility, trade engagement, and consumer outreach. These efforts continue to support Sarawak’s positioning as the Gateway to Borneo while enhancing the destination’s accessibility and appeal across key international markets.

The month-long celebration of restorative wellness experiences is inspired by Global Wellness Day and designed around the evolving needs of today’s travellers.

Running throughout June under the theme “Reset I Reconnect I Reignite,” the campaign, now in its 5th year, continues to evolve alongside changing travel behaviours worldwide, as more travellers seek experiences that support emotional well-being, better sleep, mindfulness, meaningful connection, and healthier lifestyles alongside traditional leisure experiences.

Across participating Dusit Hotels and Resorts worldwide, guests will be invited to begin the day with sunrise yoga, mindful movement sessions, and sound healing rituals; savour wellness dining experiences celebrating locally sourced ingredients; explore restorative sleep experiences; and reconnect through curated activities ranging from ice baths and floating sound therapy to family wellness workshops and moonlight storytelling.

The celebration comes amid continued global growth in wellness tourism. According to the Global Wellness Institute’s 2025 Global Wellness Economy Monitor, the global wellness economy reached a record USD6.8 trillion in 2024 and is projected to approach USD10 trillion by 2029.

“At Dusit, well-being is a key component of the stay experiences we curate across each of our brands, from lifestyle-focused ASAI Hotels in vibrant neighbourhoods to secluded ultra-luxury Devarana Dusit Retreats,” said Florence Jaffre, Corporate Director of Wellness and Kids’ Experience, Dusit International. “Today’s travellers are increasingly looking for experiences that help them slow down, sleep better, feel mentally lighter, reconnect with family and friends, and return home feeling genuinely restored. Well-Fest celebrates this and reflects our commitment to creating experiences that feel restorative and meaningful across all our properties.”

The Well-Fest 2026 programme is structured around three interconnected themes inspired by Devarana Wellness, Dusit’s group wellness concept:

• Reset – encouraging rest, mindfulness, recovery, and deeper balance.

• Reconnect – creating opportunities for shared experiences, community, and meaningful connection.

• Reignite – inspiring movement, creativity, vitality, and renewed energy.

The campaign also explores wellness through three lifestyle dimensions increasingly shaping modern hospitality experiences: mindful sleep, nourishing food, and revitalising play.

Experiences will vary across destinations and brands, allowing participating properties to reflect local culture, wellness traditions, culinary heritage, and guest preferences through distinctive programming, with packages and pricing tailored by property.

Selected properties will also offer a Well-Fest Pass, featuring priority access to workshops and activities, depending on the property.

In Thailand, the Michelin Key-recognised luxury flagship, Dusit Thani Bangkok, will offer holistic wellness journeys that combine mindful dining, restorative sleep experiences, sound healing, spa treatments, fitness, and personalised wellness rituals inspired by Thai healing traditions. Meanwhile, Dusit Thani Hua Hin will offer experiences including “Fire & Frost Retreat” sessions that combine Muay Thai and ice baths, “Sunset Floating Sound Healing,” and family-focused wellness activities. At the same time, Dusit Thani Laguna Phuket will offer guided cycling journeys, mindful beach walks, wellness-focused dining, and creative wellness activities inspired by nature and local culture.

In the Maldives, Dusit Thani Maldives will invite guests to reconnect with nature through floating sound bath experiences, Ayurvedic-inspired wellness dining, and ocean adventures exploring the UNESCO Biosphere Reserve of Baa Atoll.

In Japan, the Michelin Key-recognised Dusit Thani Kyoto will offer immersive wellness experiences inspired by nature and seasonality, including its “Dusit Farm Retreat” programme, WATSU healing sessions, and sound bath therapy designed to encourage deeper connection and relaxation.

Elsewhere across the portfolio, guests can also explore experiences such as “Rope Flow” movement sessions at Dusit Thani Manila, “Sunrise Reset” wellness rituals, and “Bedtime Story – Moonlight Tale” evening experiences at Dusit Hotel Le Palais Tu Hoa Hanoi, alongside additional wellness experiences inspired by local culture, movement, mindfulness, and meaningful connection.

The initiative reflects a broader transformation taking place across hospitality, where wellness is increasingly woven into the overall stay experience rather than treated as a standalone spa offering. This philosophy sits at the heart of Devarana Wellness, Dusit’s group wellness concept.

Well-Fest 2026 starts today, 1 June, and continues through 30 June 2026 at participating Dusit Hotels and Resorts worldwide.

POKHARA, Nepal, 29 May, 2026: Himalayan Hideaway Resort Pokhara, The Centara Collection confirms the appointment of Chef Thaksorn Than Sertsirikai as Executive Chef.

With a distinguished culinary career spanning nearly four decades, Chef Than brings exceptional international pedigree and a profound passion for gastronomy to one of Nepal’s most celebrated resort destinations.

Lovingly known simply as Chef Than, he has taken his culinary journey to some of the world’s most prestigious hospitality destinations. He has held senior roles at Ambassador Hotel Pattaya, Krabi Resort, Centara Krabi, Novotel Rayong, Sheraton, and Amari Hua Hin. His global footprint extends well beyond Thailand, encompassing professional postings in Singapore, Mali, and Phuket, each chapter deepening a versatile, cross-cultural culinary sensibility that sets him apart in his field.

Chef Than has earned wide acclaim for his mastery of Thai, Chinese, and Western cuisines — refined through decades of experience across diverse cultures and discerning guest profiles. Among his most notable honours is the prestigious Iron Pan Chef award for Thai cuisine, a recognition that speaks to his technical excellence and enduring commitment to his craft.

In his new role at Himalayan Hideaway Resort Pokhara, Chef Than is focused on crafting a dining identity that is both globally fluent and deeply rooted in place. He plans to introduce guests to the depth and authenticity of Thai cuisine while championing Nepali gastronomy — using locally sourced ingredients and traditional Himalayan flavours to develop menus that feel both worldly and unmistakably of this region.

Guests can look forward to thoughtfully composed menus that pair signature Thai specialities with reimagined Nepali classics, offering a culinary journey as layered and compelling as the surrounding landscape.

“I am truly excited to be here,” said Chef Than. “I want to share my passion for Thai cooking with guests in Nepal, and at the same time I am eager to learn from the incredible local ingredients and traditions around us — to create something that is both familiar and entirely new.”

Chef Than’s appointment underscores Himalayan Hideaway Resort Pokhara’s ongoing efforts in providing world-class hospitality. With his arrival, the resort further cements its reputation as a premier destination where exceptional dining and immersive Himalayan experiences converge.

Check out the interactive Emirates game in the Roland-Garros app for a chance to win big prizes.
Industry and Performing Arts Sarawak, said the continued support received for RWMF reflects growing confidence in Sarawak’s tourism direction and the international value of culture-led tourism.

“Festivals such as RWMF do far more than entertain. They shape destination identity, strengthen international visibility, encourage cultural exchange, and create meaningful connections between people and places,” he said.

“Through RWMF, the world not only hears music. The world encounters Sarawak, our rainforest, our traditions, our communities, our hospitality, and our spirit.”

The appreciation event brought together sponsors, strategic partners, media organisations, tourism stakeholders, collaborators, and supporting agencies contributing towards the upcoming 29th edition of the festival.

This year’s sponsorship ecosystem reflects continued industry confidence and collaborative support across multiple sectors, reinforcing RWMF’s role as an established regional platform for cultural exchange, destination visibility, tourism engagement, and international connectivity.

Official partners for RWMF 2026

Sarawak Tourism Board Chief Executive Officer Dr Sharzede Datu Haji Salleh Askor said RWMF continues to be shaped by the collective commitment of partners, sponsors, media, collaborators, vendors, performers, crew, and tourism stakeholders who contribute to the festival experience.

“One of the most meaningful things about the Rainforest World Music Festival is that no single organisation can build it alone,” she said. “Every edition of RWMF is shaped by people and partners who continue to contribute their time, expertise, resources, creativity, and belief into making the festival what it is today.”

She added that each sponsor and strategic partner contributes to different parts of the visitor journey, from accessibility and hospitality to media visibility, sustainability implementation, mobility, and the overall festival experience.

As part of its ongoing sustainability efforts, RWMF 2026 will continue to implement initiatives such as Green Ruai, Green Warriors, recycling, water refill stations, waste-reduction measures, and eco-conscious festival operations to encourage more responsible festival experiences and visitor behaviour.

RWMF 2026 is expected to feature over 200 performers from multiple countries, building on the festival’s growing international profile as one of the region’s established music and cultural festivals. The festival was also ranked No 8 in the Top 10 category at the Transglobal World Music Chart – Festival Awards 2025.

Taking place under the theme “Regenerations: Roots & Rhythms,” RWMF 2026 continues to highlight the evolving relationship between heritage and contemporary cultural expression while reinforcing Sarawak’s positioning as the Gateway to Borneo.

The Sponsors’ Appreciation Day concluded with sponsor appreciation presentations, a group photo session, and media engagement activities, celebrating the partnerships and collaborations that continue to shape Sarawak’s cultural and tourism landscape ahead of RWMF 2026.

KUCHING, Sarawak, 22 May 2026: Sarawak returned to IMEX Frankfurt 2026 for the fourth consecutive year, marking a new phase in its evolution as the Legacy Capital of Business Events in Malaysia and Borneo.

Held from 19 to 21 May 2026 at Messe Frankfurt, IMEX Frankfurt is one of the world’s leading business events trade shows, bringing together global meeting planners, association leaders, convention bureaus, and industry suppliers from around the world.

The Sarawak Pavilion was officiated by Her Excellency YM Engku Puteri Suraya Engku Mohd Afandi, Consul General of Malaysia in Frankfurt, together with Dato Ngui Ing Ing, BESarawak Board Member, Ms Tan Mei Phing, CEO of Malaysia Convention and Exhibition Bureau (MyCEB), and Acting CEO, Jason Tan Chin Foo.

Building on years of international engagement, Sarawak is shifting beyond destination promotion towards strategic industry development and long-term impact through business events. This vision is supported by major investments in infrastructure and connectivity, including the upcoming expansion of the Borneo Convention Centre Kuching (BCCK2) and the introduction of Sarawak’s regional airline, AirBorneo.

Expected to be completed in 2028, BCCK2 will significantly increase Sarawak’s capacity to host larger international conventions and exhibitions. At the same time, AirBorneo and the continued growth of international hotel brands will strengthen regional accessibility and further enhance Sarawak’s business events ecosystem.

Held under the theme “Driving Impact Together”, Sarawak’s participation at IMEX Frankfurt reflects its commitment to collaboration, sustainability, innovation, and legacy-driven development, aligned with the Post COVID-19 Development Strategy 2030 (PCDS 2030).

While Sarawak’s conventions and exhibitions strategy focuses on creating long-term legacies through knowledge exchange, industry advancement, and social impact, BESarawak is also introducing “Legacy Wonders”, its fresh approach to corporate meetings and corporate incentive travel in Sarawak.

Built on the pillars of culture, adventure, nature, gastronomy, wellness, and kindness, “Legacy Wonders” offers corporate meetings and incentive delegates meaningful, immersive experiences that foster deeper connections with Sarawak’s heritage, environment, and communities. Through cultural immersion, community engagement, and responsible travel, delegates are encouraged to contribute to and experience the positive legacies being created across the destination.

Business Events Sarawak (BESarawak) Chairman Datu Hii Chang Kee, Deputy State Secretary (Operations), said Sarawak’s presence at IMEX Frankfurt is no longer just about destination visibility.

“Our focus today is on encouraging the global industry to contribute to the PCDS 2030 through meaningful collaboration and long-term growth opportunities,” said Datu Hii.

“Sarawak has evolved beyond being a host destination to becoming a strategic destination partner that collaborates with organisers to maximise the long-term value and impact of their events. This includes supporting legacy and sustainability initiatives, measuring impact, and creating opportunities for investment, innovation, sector growth, and wider industry collaboration. Through this approach, business events can contribute meaningfully to the PCDS 2030 and the broader United Nations Sustainable Development Goals,” he added.

Sarawak is also strengthening its support ecosystem through initiatives such as the Academic Mobility Programme (AMP), which connects universities, industry players, and international partners through technical visits, study exchanges, and knowledge-sharing opportunities aligned with the state’s priority sectors.

“These initiatives reflect how Sarawak is strengthening its position as the legacy capital of business events through investments in both hard and soft infrastructure, while creating opportunities for different groups to contribute to community wellbeing and long-term development. Programmes such as AMP also provide platforms for academia and industry experts to channel their research, knowledge, and expertise into Sarawak’s priority sectors, driving meaningful collaboration and long-term impact across the destination,” said BESarawak Acting Chief Executive Officer Jason Tan Chin Foo.

Leading the Sarawak Pavilion delegation at IMEX Frankfurt, BESarawak was joined by exhibitors representing the state’s business events and tourism ecosystem: Borneo Adventure, Borneo Convention Centre Kuching, Cat City Holidays, Mercure Miri City Centre Hotel, Pullman Kuching Hotel, Pullman Miri Waterfront Hotel, and Wah Tung Travel. The pavilion will also feature local F&B partners, The Bibber’s Tale and the Culinary Heritage and Arts Society Sarawak (CHASS), showcasing Sarawak’s rich culinary heritage to the global business events community.

The Asian Tourism & Hospitality Awards 2025–2026 celebrate excellence, innovation, leadership, and service across Asia’s tourism and hospitality industry.
He added that the recognition further strengthens Sarawak’s commitment towards supporting Malaysia’s tourism aspirations throughout Visit Malaysia Year 2026.

“As Malaysia welcomes the world through Visit Malaysia Year 2026, Sarawak remains committed to strengthening our tourism offerings, expanding international collaborations, improving connectivity, and creating experiences that continue to position Sarawak as a destination rich in culture, nature, adventure, food, and festivals.

Beyond destination promotion, we also aspire for Sarawak to be recognised as a place for meaningful tourism, where culture, sustainability, communities, and global engagement come together,” he added.

Sarawak continues to gain international recognition through its diverse tourism offerings and globally recognised signature events, including the Rainforest World Music Festival and Rainforest Youth Summit, which have helped position the state as a leading platform for cultural exchange, sustainability conversations, youth engagement, and experiential tourism in the region.

As Visit Malaysia Year 2026 continues, Sarawak remains focused on strengthening destination marketing efforts, strategic partnerships, event development, and sustainable tourism initiatives to attract both domestic and international visitors while reinforcing the state’s growing reputation on the global tourism stage.

This milestone marks the debut of the edgy, design-led Aiden brand in Southeast Asia.

Aiden is a collection of contemporary hotels that capture the essence of their destination. Situated on Surawong Road, Aiden Surawong Bangkok lets guests discover an historic urban area which has evolved into a thriving heritage district where culture, creativity and commerce converge. The century-old Neilson Hays Library, the Bangkok Folk Museum, and the flagship store of Jim Thompson, the iconic silk merchant, are all located along the same street as the hotel. Neighbouring Silom, with its vibrant night market, Yaowarat, Bangkok’s Chinatown and street food haven, and the Bang Rak riverside district are also just a short commute away. Sala Daeng BTS skytrain station and Sam Yan MRT subway station put the entire city within easy reach.

Aiden Surawong Bangkok pays homage to the area’s heritage and evolution. The hotel has been transformed from a former jewellery workshop, and its interiors sparkle with the imagery of precious gemstones. Evoking the spirit of the 1920s, travellers are immersed in the glamour of old Hollywood, with a Gatsby-like Art Deco design, connected social areas, and plenty of Instagrammable spaces.

“The debut of Aiden in Thailand and Southeast Asia demonstrates our commitment to meeting the needs of a new generation of savvy travellers. They are seeking more than a gateway; they are looking for connection and lifestyle in dynamic destinations—it’s about meaningful moments in local neighbourhoods. With its blend of historical charm and modern creativity, Bangkok is the perfect place to introduce Aiden to the region. I am confident that our discerning guests, including our Best Western Rewards® members, will be inspired by the hotel’s striking design, social vibe, seamless connectivity, and intuitive amenities,” said Olivier Berrivin, Vice President – APAC, BWH Hotels.

The 77 rooms and suites are refined sanctuaries with modern amenities intuitively suited to the needs of digital nomads and urban explorers. Guests can unwind at the Gems Pool with skyline views, work out at the fitness centre, or dine in style at Club Ruby, an elegant restaurant which transitions from a casual morning café to an all-day dining venue and a bar for after-work drinks. The Garden by Aiden is a laid-back social space for post-work hangouts and private gatherings, featuring signature drinks.

With the opening of Aiden Surawong Bangkok, BWH Hotels now operates 17 properties in the Greater Bangkok region, making it one of the city’s leading hotel operators. It also marks the group’s 28th property in Thailand. In line with the company’s five-year development strategy, BWH Hotels is targeting around 200 hotels across the Asia Pacific over the next five years.

BANGKOK, 11 May 2026: Prachoom Tantiprasertsuk, Vice President – Operations (Central & Southern Thailand) and Government & Business Relations at Dusit International, and President of the Thailand Incentive and Convention Association (TICA), has received the prestigious Thailand Meetings Leadership Award at the inaugural Thailand MICE Legacy Awards 2026, organised by the Thailand Convention and Exhibition Bureau (TCEB).

Presented during MICE Day 2026 at the Queen Sirikit National Convention Centre in Bangkok on 29 April 2026, the award recognises individuals who have played a significant role in advancing Thailand’s meetings sector and strengthening the country’s position as a leading international MICE destination.

Prachoom was recognised for her contribution to Thailand’s MICE sector over more than three decades, including her long-standing role in supporting industry collaboration, strengthening Thailand’s international profile, and helping drive the development of TICA, where she has been involved since its early years and currently serves as President for the 2025–2026 term.

Drawing on extensive experience in the international hospitality industry, she has played an active role in supporting the growth of Thailand’s meetings sector and the continued evolution of TICA as a leading professional organisation within the country’s business events landscape.

While the recognition honours individual achievement, it also reflects the increasingly important role that hospitality leaders play in advancing Thailand’s tourism and business events ecosystem through collaboration, mentorship, and long-term industry engagement.

“This recognition is deeply meaningful because it reflects the collective efforts of so many people who have helped shape Thailand’s MICE sector over many years,” said Ms Tantiprasertsuk. “I’ve been fortunate to work alongside dedicated colleagues and partners across hospitality, tourism, government, and business events, all of whom share the same goal of strengthening Thailand’s position on the global stage. This commitment is also closely aligned with Dusit’s long-standing vision and values.”

Commenting on the recognition, Dusit International Group CEO and Acting Chairman of the Board of Directors Chanin Donavanik (a long-time supporter of Thailand’s tourism and hospitality industry through leadership and industry engagement) said: “Thailand’s tourism and MICE sectors have always progressed through strong collaboration between passionate individuals across both the public and private sectors. Leaders who contribute beyond their own organisations play an important role in strengthening the industry for the future, and we believe supporting that kind of contribution remains essential to the long-term development of Thailand’s hospitality ecosystem.”

Established by TCEB, the Thailand MICE Legacy Awards honour leaders, pioneers, and industry figures whose dedication and vision have helped shape Thailand’s MICE industry over several decades, recognising contributions across meetings, exhibitions, conventions, and the broader development of the country’s MICE industry.
