Sri Lanka launches campaign

-

COLOMBO, 11 November 2019:  Sri Lanka embarks on a mega tourism promotion campaign in 12 markets starting mid-December the  Sri Lanka Tourism Promotion Bureau reported at the weekend.

SLTPB chairman, Kishu Gomes, providing details of the campaign following last week’s visit to the World Travel Market in London.

During the WTM, Team, Sril Lanka announced that an advertising promotion valued at USD6 million would get underway to boost travel in 2020.

The main emphasis is to support the country’s travel industry with an awareness campaign to back B2B negotiations and contracting for tour group travel in 2020.

Priority markets are China, India and Australia plus key markets in Europe and the Middle East.

Depending on the media campaign costs, programmes will run from one to six months.

Advertising will concentrate on television, radio, bus advertising, and shopping malls to build awareness for the country’s main tourist destinations.

Sri Lanka’s tourism industry was badly hit after the 21 April 2019 suicide attacks which targeted churches and luxury hotels.

But there are now signs of recovery. Until October, over 1.5 million tourists visited the country and by year-end arrivals should reach 2 million.
