Nepal’s tourism minister quits

-

KATHMANDU, Nepal, 14 November 2019: Nepal’s minister in charge of tourism quit just six weeks before the country’s Visit Nepal Year 2020 campaign gets underway.

News services in Nepal reported that the State Minister of Industry, Tourism, Forest and Environment, Prakash Rawal stepped down from his post earlier this week. He handed over his office and official car keys to officials at the ministry and left the building.

He faces accusations that he held shares in the Janajyoti Multiple Campus located in Kanchanpur district. He relinquished the post to make way for a full inquiry.

According to a report in the Himalayan Times quoted government spokesperson and minister for internal affairs and law, Prakash Shah, who said legal proceedings would follow if he was found guilty.

The minister of tourism has denied the allegations saying they were an attempt to tarnish his image.

Last February the country lost its former Tourism Minister Rabindra Adhikari who was killed in a helicopter crash in eastern Nepal. All seven people on board died in the accident caused by bad weather.
