More Thais head for Bali beaches

-

DENPASAR, 30 October 2019: More Thais are booking Bali holidays with Hotelbeds reporting they are now among the top five nationalities heading for Indonesia’s most popular island destination.

Hotelbeds reported on travel booking trends to the island during its 2nd annual MarketHub event hosted in Bali last week.

Thailand joined the top five source markets for Hotelbeds’ bookings for Bali based on reservations made by the system’s B2B travel buyers.

The top 10 source markets for Hotelbeds’ Balinese hotel partners are Australia, China, the United States, the United Kingdom, Thailand, Indonesia, India, Spain, Germany, and Sweden.

Australia is traditionally the biggest inbound source market booking accommodation in Bali via the Hotelbeds platform for two consecutive years – with over 50% of Australian travellers booking accommodation at least one month in advance.

Hotelbeds also reported that Bali ranks number three in its APAC top destinations of 2019, and number 16 in the list of top global destinations – offering local hotels a steady-flow of high-value international guests all year round.

Non-domestic bookings – and in particular long-haul bookings – typically provide hotels with guests who on average stay longer, reserve further in advance, cancel less, spend more in the destination and come back more frequently.

Hotelbeds bookings are generated by around  60,000 B2B travel buyers around the world.

Hotelbeds’ APAC regional director for sourcing Miguel Anaya said: “We look forward to contracting more accommodation in Bali and Hotelbeds is registering advanced bookings for 2020, especially from source markets such as Australia, the US and the UK.”

Themed “Shifting Futures”, the 2nd edition of MarketHub Asia brought together 300 of Hotelbeds’ partners from source markets in the Asia-Pacific and the Middle East. Attendees this year include senior executives and decision-makers from tour operators, airlines, and loyalty and reward points schemes.

  1. It’s because it’s affordable and family friendly, interesting because Balinese Hindu temples are a variation on familiar religious narratives.

Thais aren’t huge sunbathers or surfers, they aren’t really interested in the beach. Thais will choose a vacation for different reasons, for peace and quiet, to be somewhere different. They probably don’t go clubbing or to a Seminyak surf beach to hang around with Australian backpackers. I like the quiet local Thai beaches better, but I like Bali for other reasons.

  2. And Bali has more to offer, its the attractive culture for visitors. I almost forget this advantage.

  3. The top 10 source markets for Hotelbeds’ Balinese hotel partners are Australia, China, the United States, the United Kingdom, Thailand, Indonesia, India, Spain, Germany, and Sweden.

Is it because the comparative cost of accommodation and other travel costs in Bali more favorable than in Thailand’s favorite beaches ?
