Vietjet opens new route to Taipei

-

SINGAPORE, 2 September 2019: Vietjet has announced its latest direct route connecting Danang, a coastal city in Central Vietnam with Taipei the capital of Taiwan.

The route will begin operations daily from 19 December 2019.

Using Airbus A320 and A312 aircraft, the flight will depart from Danang at 1050 and arrive in Taipei at 1430.

The return flight will take off from Taipei at 1530 and land in Danang at 1730.

Vietjet currently flies eight routes between Vietnam and Taiwan, offering 20 flights daily.

Vietjet director of international sales and distribution Jay Lingeswara said: “The new Danang to Taipei route is part of plans to expand Vietjet’s network. Currently, more than 3,000 passengers can fly daily from Hanoi, Danang or HCMC to major cities in Taiwan including Taipei, Taichung, Kaohsiung and Tainan. In the future, Vietjet will continue to open new routes, helping to connect local provinces in Vietnam to other countries in the region.”

To celebrate the new route, Vietjet offered thousands of promotional tickets. Some fares were zero cost, but passengers had to pay additional fees and taxes. The latest campaign for the new Danang to Taipei service concluded at the weekend.

It was offering free or very cheap fares from Ho Chi Minh City and Hanoi and Danang to all destinations in Taiwan for 1 October to 30 June 2020.

There are downsides from a consumer’s point of view with the airline’s last-minute fire sales. The most glaring ones are the short advance notice and the restriction that bookings must be made between 0100 to 1500 Singapore time over just three days.
