Stay cool and hashtag your #trip

-

BANGKOK, 23 August 2019: For millennials, it’s almost an instinctive reaction to use hashtags to tell a story or share an experience.

Adding popular hashtags increases the chances that the story will be shared while it also reaches out to a broader audience, especially those who share the same interests.

Posts tagged with #travel are among the favourites on Instagram, topping 430 million. A survey conducted by UK-based holiday rental insurance provider Schofields found that travellers age 33 and under prioritised the ‘Instagrammable’ factor when making their purchasing decisions. It is undeniable that the # FOMO effect, or the ‘fear of missing out’, is about everything on the social platform and travel is no exception.

Popular travel campaigns focusing on Thailand use hashtags to promote awareness and engage travellers. In Thailand, key tourist destinations have already gained millions of hashtags. #Bangkok has reached 24.6 million, #Phuket 8.6 million, while #Chiang Mai clocks 5.3 million. Beyond these popular destinations, there are other ‘Instagrammable’ destinations, that visitors can check by following hashtags. They can share stories and inspire with a unique experience while avoiding the pitfall of #FOMO. Many of them are linked to the Tourism Authority of Thailand promotions and features on its newsroom.

Batik, a method of producing coloured design textiles, is a significant part of the clothing culture in Thailand’s southernmost provinces Pattani, Yala, and Narathiwat. The distinctive characteristics of batik are reflected in the art and craftsmanship that goes into creating beautiful fabrics painted by skilful artisans. The local wisdom passed down from one generation to the next uses wax and carved moulds to create the patterns.
