PUTRAJAYA, Malaysia, 8 July 2019: Visit Maldives Travel Expo (VMTE) reached out to Malaysian travellers at the weekend.

The first expo of its kind organised by the Maldives Marketing & PR Corporation (MMPRC) the event was hosted in association with AirAsia at the popular IOI Mall-Putrajaya.

AirAsia, the only airline that flies directly from Kuala Lumpur to the Maldives offering 10 flights weekly, offered a 20% discount on all flights to the Maldives for bookings made during the travel fair. The discount applied for travel through to 21 November.

Maldives tourism industry representing 17 organisations attended. They included tour operators, travel agents, resorts and guesthouses.

Targeting Malaysian Travel trade and consumers, it allowed travel and trade industry partners to meet, establish contacts and negotiate offers while visitors could access holiday packages deals at prices cheaper than elsewhere. 

While the first day concentrated on the travel trade by invitation, the second and third days opened to consumers.

VMTE is a new venture the first ever between the nation’s hospitality suppliers and the low-cost airline bringing the Malaysian and Southeast Asian markets to the Maldives,

The Maldives welcomed 93,398 arrivals from Southeast Asian markets with a growth rate of 13.7% compared to the previous year.
