Sri Lanka lops tour prices

MUMBAI, 26 June 2019: In a bid to ramp up Indian outbound tourists to Sri Lanka, ‘team Sri Lanka introduced new tour packages with discounts ranging from 30 to 60%.

Sri Lanka Tourism launched the packages in collaboration with team members SriLankan Airlines, The Hotels Association of Sri Lanka (THASL) and inbound tour operators.

 Specifically targeting India, the top source market for Sri Lanka, the package offers discounted airfares, accommodation and transport ranging from 30 % to 60% off market prices.

This package is sold only India using Sri Lankan Airlines’ network that covers 12 cities in India with 123 weekly flights.

Sri Lanka Consul General, Chamari Rodrigo along with the Sri Lankan delegation headed by the Minister of Tourism Wildlife and Christian Religious Affairs John Amaratunga attended the event.

The Minister of Tourism said the government has now restored a positive security environment in Sri Lanka following the horrific Easter Sunday bombings.

Five tour packages to Sri Lanka offer stay combinations in Colombo, Kandy, Nuwara Eliya, Dambulla, Sigiriya and the South Coast with multiple options to suit any budget.

These offers are valid until 30 September and can be purchased through the travel agency networks in India.

Sri Lanka Tourism Promotion Bureau chairman added: “India has been the number one source market for Sri Lanka over the past decade and in 2018 recorded over 400,000 visitors.”

Additionally, Master Card, which has over 180 million Indian cardholders, has also come on board to promote the launched packages through its channels.

India accounts for 18.2% of all visits to Sri Lanka with the 2018 total reaching 424,887 up 10.5% from 2017.
