MNA adds Kawthaung to Phuket route

-

PHUKET, 27 June 2019: Myanmar National Airlines adds a stop in Kawthaung to its Yangon –Phuket service effective 9 July.

Last year, the airline stopped its Yangon-Phuket direct service once the monsoon rains set in across southern Myanmar and Thailand.

However, according to Airlineroute timetable information, the service will continue this year beyond 9 July, but with an intermediary stop in Kawthaung.

Flying just two days of the week, Tuesday and Friday, the service will depart Yangon at 0945 and will arrive in Phuket at 1300 using an Embraer E190 aircraft.

The return flight will depart from Phuket at 1400 and will arrive in Yangon at 1615. The flight will make a 30-minute stop in Kawthaung at 1115 on the outbound leg and 1415 on the return trip.

Around 1,200 km south of Yangon, Kawthaung is a trading and fishing town located at the mouth of the Kyan River at the southernmost tip of the Myanmar peninsula, in the Tanintharyi Region. It faces the Thai town of Ranong directly across the Kra Isthmus. During British rule in Burma between 1824 and 1948, the port town was known as Victoria Point.

Kawthaung is emerging as the main gateway town and immigration checkpoint for travellers exploring the Mergui Archipelago that is now opening to tourism.
