India names new tourism minister

NEW DELHI, 7 June 2019: India’s new Minister of State for Tourism, Prahlad Singh Patel, officially assumed his duties at the ministry in New Delhi, 4 June.   

After taking charge he spoke to local media saying he would accomplish the Prime Minister’s vision of creating a ‘New India’ balancing investment in tourism with the need to protect the nation’s heritage and diverse culture.

He promised to speed up the work and build on the accomplishments of the last five years taking the travel industry forward at a faster pace.

The 59-year-old minister has served as an MP for four terms and was a member of the previous Narendra Modi government.
