Paris woos Asian travel firms

BANGKOK, 14 May 2019: Paris Convention & Visitors Bureau has embarked on a sales mission to Asian cities this week starting with a media and travel agency presentations in Bangkok later today.

Restoration of the Notre Dame Cathedral will top the agenda at media briefings in the three Asian cities.

Nearly USD1 billion in donations has so far been collected for the massive restoration of the fire-ravaged cathedral and the million dollar question is whether the restoration can be completed in five years as pledged by the French President Emmanuel Macron.

By far the most popular heritage site in the French capital, it remains a magnet for tourists who gather behind barriers take photos of the charred cathedral shell that miraculously remained standing.

Macron believes the restoration of the 19th-century spire, vaults and two-thirds of the cathedral’s roof can be completed in time for the Paris 2024 Olympics.

In Asia, the sales mission’s objective is to increase incentive group visits to the French capital.

The sales mission will visit Bangkok and Seoul before concluding with presentations to the travel trade in Tokyo on 20 May.

The bureau is leading 21 French tourism professionals and suppliers of tourism services who later today will network and have business discussions with Thai travel firms involved in both the leisure and events hosting markets.

This is the seventh consecutive year the mission has visited trade partners in Asia.

Earlier in March this year, delegates successfully covered Singapore, Jakarta, Manila and Hanoi where they met key buyers for leisure and incentive travel.
