BANGKOK, 12 April 2019: Airports of Thailand forecasts more than 3.2 million travellers will board flights at its six airports in Thailand over the Songkran holiday week.

AOT manages Bangkok’s two gateway airports Suvarnabhumi and Don Mueang, plus airports in Phuket, Hat Yai, Chiang Mai and Chiang Rai.

To cater to the surge in holiday traffic through all of its airports, 12 to 21 April, AOT is organising assistance centres operating 24 hours a day.

AOT has also arranged interior decoration for all passenger terminals to reflect a traditional Songkran festival theme.

Apart from photographic backdrops in various passenger areas, AOT has created worship zones with altars displaying Buddha images for passengers to pay respect and bathe the Buddha images according to religious traditions. Thai cultural performances will also welcome passengers arriving at airport terminals.

Meanwhile, the Tourism Authority of Thailand’s TATIC Tourism Market Research Centre forecasts tourism revenue earned during the Songkran festival will reach THB 20,980 million (+10%).

Figures are estimates without the TAT centre providing an explanation of its methodology for data collection.

AoT warned that during the main departure days for Songkran 12 to 13 April, particularly at the two Bangkok airports, passengers should check-in for flights two to three hours in advance to avoid missing flights.
