HANOI, 6 March 2019: Vietnam’s continues to report a robust tourism performance in February with the country registering 1,588,161 arrivals, up 10.9% over the same period last year.
Arrivals for the first two months reached 3,089,927, an 8% increase over the same period last year.
Vietnam closed 2018 with 15 5 million visits representing a substantial gain and confirmation that it is fast becoming a popular tourist destination that could ultimately challenge Thailand. The 2019 target stands at 18 million, which is within reach if the two-month performance is sustainable.

Based on Vietnam‘s General Statistics Office provisional figures for February China continued as the top supply market with 516,351 trips up 6.8%, although visits over the two months, January and February, were down by a marginal 1.3%.
The top 10 supply markets in February were:
China: 516,351, +6.8%
South Korea: 383,205, +26.3%;
US: 77,423, +3.0%;
Japan: 70,841, +7.6%;
Russia: 70,774, +6.0%;
Taiwan: 77,916, +23.7%;
Australia: 30,286, -6.0%;
Malaysia: 43,369, +1.0%;
Thailand: 34,877, +33.5%;
UK: 30,967, +8.6%.
Asia markets supplied 1,219,310 visits in February up 13.3%. Over the two months, January and February, arrivals from Asia were up 9.4%.

Thailand’s outbound travel market, in ninth place, delivered a notable increase of 33.5% in February the second highest improvement after Laos. Taiwan, Hong Kong, Philippines and Korea all delivered increases in excess of 20% in February.
