Phuket marathon ready to go

-

BANGKOK, 18 March 2019: The Laguna Phuket Marathon returns for its 14th year and organisers are expecting a bumper field of over 13,000 participants from more than 50 countries.

Laguna Phuket Marathon is a key event in Phuket’s annual sporting calendar claiming to be the largest mass participation event on the tourist island.

It will again shine the light on the island’s sports and tourism credentials, 8 to 9 June. Around 80% of the runners are from outside of Phuket; travelling from overseas and around Thailand, the organisers claim.

Laguna Phuket Marathon organisers thumbs up for the 8 to 9 June sporting event.

Participants in the event stand a chance to qualify for the Boston Marathon based on professionally race times by Sportstats Asia.  It is also certified by AIMS (Association of International Marathons and Distance Races).

A study of the 2018 event claims the economic impact was THB147.8 million with international participants staying an average of 10 days over the period and their top three areas of spend being food & beverage, accommodation and transport.

This year, in addition to supporting Laguna Phuket Foundation’s Children First Fund, the event will support the UNHCR (UN Refugee Agency).

Laguna Phuket Marathon 2019 offers six distances: 2 km Kids Run, 5 km and 10.5 km will take place on Saturday 8 June in the afternoon, while the Half Marathon (21.0975 km), Marathon (42.195 km) and Marathon Relay (42.195 km) will take place on Sunday 9 June in the morning.
