Bangkok Airways a big money spinner

-

BANGKOK, 6 March 2019: Bangkok Airways, a public listed company, declared a net profit of THB356.8 million for the fiscal year ending 31 December.

Profit attributable to the equity holders of the company amounted to THB 249.3 million. Earnings per share stood at THB 0.12.

Total revenue for the year reached THB27,943.6 million with the airline reporting it served 5.95 million passengers, albeit a marginal increase 0.1% year-on-year.

This year, the airline forecasts passengers flown will increase by 3%, while passenger revenue should improve 3.5%. Passenger load factor in 2019 should reach 70% up from 68.6% during 2018, which was lower than what low-cost airlines achieved, but suggests Bangkok Airways still has room to increase seat sales with the current fleet capacity.

During 2018, the airline added a flight from Chiang Mai to Hanoi in Vietnam and increased flights from Bangkok to Vientiane, the capital of Laos, from seven to 14 flights a week.

It also increased flights on the Bangkok-Mandalay (Myanmar) route from seven to 11 flights a week and on the Bangkok-Phu Quoc (Vietnam) route from four to seven flights a week.

During 2019, the airline will increase codeshare partners from the current 27 to around 30. It will also add new services from Bangkok (Suvarnabhumi), Samui and Chiang Mai to destinations in Cambodia, Laos, Myanmar and Vietnam.

A new service Bangkok-Cam Ranh (Vietnam) was launched in January this year and services from Chiang Mai to Krabi and Chiang Mai to Luang Prabang (Laos) are due to start in March and April. Flights between Bangkok and Danang (Vietnam) will increase from seven to 14 per week, starting 1 March and on the Krabi-Bangkok route from 21 to 28 flights per week, effective 31 March.

The airline also announced it is changing its Passenger Services Systems (PSS) from Sabre to Amadeus effective this July.

  1. Clearly there is airline management excellence available in Thailand. Why can’t TG turn a buck?
