Bamboo beefs up fleet with Boeing

-

HANOI, 1 March Vietnam’s newest airline, Bamboo Airways, that started flying domestic routes in January will buy 10 Boeing Dreamliners worth USD3.2 billion.

Bloomberg reported the airline is planning to fly to the US and Europe later this year, but the priority right now is to establish flights to key cities in Asia.

Bamboo Airways already has 20 Dreamliners on order, a deal it signed last June worth around USD5.6 billion.

The airline launched services last month with 10 Airbus A321neo planes and has another 20 Airbus A320s due for delivery this year.

The latest deal to order 10 Boeing 787-9 Dreamliners worth about USD3 billion was due to be signed during the visit of US President Donald Trump.

Bamboo Airways plans to fly to the US later this year, or in 2020, and is looking at routes to Seattle, Los Angeles and San Francisco.

The US Federal Aviation Administration this month gave its approval to Vietnam’s air-safety system, which will allow the Southeast Asian country’s airlines to open routes to the US.
