Vietnam sets pace for 2019

HANOI, 20 February 2019: Hot on the heels of announcing 15.5 million tourist arrivals for 2018, Vietnam reports arrivals in January this year were estimated 1,501,766  up 5%.

Figures released by the Government Statistics Office showed arrivals from just Asia reached 1,1031,656 an increase of 5.4% over January 2018.

Contrary to the prevailing trend in 2018, travel from China actually dropped in January by 10.7% with visits at 405,573. No explanation was provided, but the Chinese Lunar New Year holiday, in both 2018 and 2019, took place in February excluding that factor.  

But Korea continued to register healthy growth with arrivals up 23% to 324,545 visits and Taiwan another strong market grew 31.4 % with 64,365 visits.

Thailand with 42,603 visits delivered an increase of 39.7% and Singapore 37,689 visits declined 2.5%. They were the top supply markets in Southeast Asia.
