LONDON, 14 February 2019: Hotel room construction in the Asia Pacific increased by 31.4%, when compared with January 2018, according to the STR’s Asia Pacific hotel supply development update.
Released Wednesday, the report shows there were 387,195 rooms in 1,719 properties in construction in the region.
Another 522 properties, or 100,452 rooms representing an increase of 30.70% were logged as in the final planning stage.
STR data also showed 1,257 properties with 299,119 rooms (-2.4%) were in the planning phase.
China topped the list with the most rooms in construction at 204,295, or 8.1% of existing supply.
Japan came in second with 38,155 rooms, or 6.1% of existing supply.
Vietnam was third with 22,359 rooms, or 24.6% of existing supply.
Indonesia with 21,226 rooms, or 5.9% of existing supply.
In fifth place India accounted for 18,713 rooms in construction, or 6.6% of existing supply.
