Boracay blighted by road repairs

-

BORACAY, Philippines, 28 February 2019: If you are heading for Boracay thinking rehabilitation construction has now ended think again; the island’s main road is a disaster.

The Philippines online news service, Inquirer.Net, claims “rehab turns travel into horror” as it warns visitors to be aware roads are still under construction.

Construction of a major stretch of Boracay Island’s main road has yet to start even as an increasing number of tourists are coming to the popular island-resort, the news service claimed.

It means that the main road from the area near the Elizalde property leading to Barangay Yapak at the northern end of the island is still difficult to use due to excavations for the widening of the road and upgrading of drainage and sewage pipes.

The road leads to high-end resorts, hotels and restaurants.

Boracay closed to tourists for six months from 26 April to 25 October for rehabilitation and following that visitor arrivals were limited by the number of available resorts that had been certified as having water treatments systems in place.

One of the core projects focused on upgrading and widening the 20 km road network on the island, and that will probably take months to complete.

The report was first published in Inquirer.Net
