Superyachts head for Port Blair

PORT BLAIR India, 9 January 2019: Foreign tourists can fly directly to the Andaman and Nicobar Islands now the Government of India has designated Port Blair airport as an authorised immigration check post.

For travellers with valid travel documents they can now enter and exit at Port Blair”, reported Asia Pacific Superyachts Andaman Islands, India, representative, R Rathnam.

He confirmed the Government of India has issued a home ministry notification that designates Port Blair Airport of the Union territory of Andaman and Nicobar Islands an authorised immigration check post.

For those interested in cruising this spectacular destination, the second annual “Sail the Andamans” Yacht Carnival & Rally will be hosted 20 February to 21 March 2019 out of Port Blair.

The event is is supported by Directorate of Tourism, Andaman and Nicobar Administration.

Rathnam also noted that the Indian Embassy in Bangkok and the High Commission of India in Malaysia have agreed to issue visas for participants of the Yachting Carnival.

He was confident that an e-Visa facility at the seaport and airport of Port Blair is due to be announced soon that will provide foreigners with a visa-on-arrival.

Some boats joining the carnival will sail from Phuket and other destinations in Asia, arriving in the Andaman Islands to join the ‘Sail the Andamans’ festivities.

Exploring the natural beauty of the Andamans under sail is the highlight of the ‘Sail the Andamans’ Yacht Carnival and a special on and off the water itinerary is available from Andaman Holidays.

The event is once again being organised by Andaman Holidays and supported by Asia Pacific Superyachts.

Apart from sailing in a beautiful area those attending will have the rare opportunity to experience an ancient culture and way of life. 

Boat entries are limited and 16 yachts have already signed up.
