Splurge on fond farewell

-

HONG KONG, 21 January 2019: We don’t normally do blatant commercials for hotels, but as the 45-year old Excelsior, Hong Kong is closing down for good, a plug for the hotel featured in the Peter Sellers Revenge of the Pink Panther movie is in order.

The hotel’s famous revolving door that featured in the movie was replaced some years back, but now the entire building, along with its iconic Dickens’ Bar, await the demolition ball that will smash this famed hotel to dust particles.

So for those who want to walk down memory lane just one more time and down an icy cold Guinness at the Dickens Bar, the black-suits of management are offering a knockdown farewell packages valid last days of business 29 to 31 March.

The Fond Farewell Room Package offers a stay during the final nights in operation as well as an invite to a grand farewell reception in the hotel lobby.

Guests can choose from three options to celebrate the life and times of this once glamorous four-star hotel that enjoyed an eventful 45-year presence on Causeway Bay’s Victoria Harbour waterfront.

The three options available with the Fond Farewell Room Package are:

Two nights’ stay in a deluxe harbour view room and one farewell dinner for two at ToTT’s and Roof Terrace priced HKD9,688

Two nights’ stay in a deluxe harbour view room and one farewell dinner Buffet for two at ‘Café on the 1st’ priced HKD6,288

Two nights’ stay in a deluxe harbour view room and one farewell dinner for two at Dickens Bar priced HKD6,088

Each package includes an invitation to a reception to be held on the farewell evening of 30 March and buffet breakfast for two at ‘Café on the 1st’ on 31 March.

The packages are subject to availability, valid 29 to 31 March only and subject to a 10% service charge.

Located on the site of the original warehouse of Jardine Matheson, one of Hong Kong’s founding “Taipans”, the Excelsior, is probably best known for being the location in the Revenge of the Pink Panther film, starring Peter Sellers, and for its Michelin-starred Yee Tung Heen Chinese restaurant.

In front of the hotel is the famous Noonday Gun, which has been fired daily at midday by uniformed Jardine Matheson staff since the 1840s.
