Lion Air launches Tokyo flight

BANGKOK, 17 December 2028: Low-cost airline, Thai Lion, launched a new  daily service from Bangkok to Tokyo Narita last week.

The daily service departs Bangkok Don Mueang Airport at 0100 and arrives at Tokyo’s Narita airport at 0910.

The return flight departs Narita at 1100 and arrives at Bangkok’s Don Mueang airport at 1615.

Originally, the airline had planned to start the service 30 November, but delayed the launch to 7 December.

It serves the route with an Airbus A330 offering a two-class configuration with 18 seats in premium economy and 420 seats in economy.  Seats at the front of the aircraft in premium economy class are flat beds.

During this month the airline is quoting the lowest economy one-way fare for premium class at THB10,380 and for economy THB4,000.

The inaugural flight to Tokyo was welcomed by officials from Narita International Airport, the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport, the director of the Tourism Authority of Thailand office in Japan and top officials from Japan National Tourism Organisation.

The airline is planning to launch additional services to Osaka and Nagoya in Japan during the first quarter of 2019.

However, Lion Air the parent airline based in Jakarta Indonesia is under scrutiny after a fatal accident last October when an almost brand new Boeing 737 Max plummeted into the sea, shortly after take off, killing all 189 passengers and crew.

Indonesian investigators, who presenting a provisional report on the accident, 28 November, noted that the Lion Air Boeing 737 aircraft had been found not to be airworthy on a flight the day before it crashed.

They also suggested that Lion Air should urgently improve its safety culture and better document repair work on its planes.
