BANGKOK, 18 December 2018: Bangkok Airways will increase its daily flights between Bangkok and Mandalay in Myanmar to double daily effective 1 January.
It’s a seasonal addition to meet an increase in bookings generated by the airline’s codeshare partners in Asia and Europe.
They use the Thai airline for the connecting Bangkok-Mandalay sector. 
The additional service, particularly for European and Japanese travellers flying into Bangkok to connect with the PG flights, will be in the timetable from 1 January to 1 April 2019.
Currently, the airline flies a single daily service departing Bangkok at 1215. The roundtrip fare for the one hour 55 minute flight each way has a quoted fare of USD306 on popular fare comparison sites.
It competes head-on with Thai Smile, a subsidiary of Thai Airways International. Its daily flight departs at 0945, which is more convenient for passengers arriving in Bangkok early morning on flights from Europe. The roundtrip fare on Thai Smile is USD407.
Bangkok Airways’ additional service using a 144-seat Airbus A319 aircraft will depart from Bangkok’s Suvarnabhumi airport at 1700 and arrive in Mandalay at 1825. Out of Mandalay the flight departs 1915 and arrives in Bangkok at 2140.
PG’s evening flight is cheaper than its mid-morning departure with a fare quoted for flights in January at USD235.
There is a cheaper option for flights to Mandalay on Thai AirAsia a low-cost airline which is based at Don Mueang airport. The fare roundtrip for a departure midday is USD118.
However, as most long-haul passengers will arrive at Suvarnabhumi airport the low-cost option requires a 50-km road commute across the city to Don Mueang airport.
