AirAsia launches direct flights from Chiang Rai

SEPANG, Malaysia 21 December 2018: AirAsia confirmed, earlier this week, it will launch direct international flights, from Thailand’s far north Chiang Rai to Kuala Lumpur, Macau and Singapore at the end of January.

Operated by AirAsia Thailand (FD), the Chiang Rai- Kuala Lumpur direct service will operate four times weekly from 31 January, 2019.

At the same time Thai AirAsia will launch a direct service from Chiang Rai to Phuket competing head-on with Vietjet on the domestic route.

Direct services to Singapore and Macau will appeal to residents planning short weekend holiday breaks to Chiang Rai, which is gaining popularity for its natural and cultural attractions.

The airline will offer three-weekly flights from Macau to Chiang Rai.

AirAsia Thailand CEO, Santisuk Klongchaiya said: “Chiang Rai has both the capacity and potential for tourism growth with its distinct art and culture as well as beautiful natural scenery.

“With attractions such as Wat Rong Khun, also known as the White Temple, Baan Dam Museum, Rong Seur Ten Temple, Mae Fah Luang Garden and Doi Tung Royal Palace, the province caters to a variety of travel styles.”

To celebrate the launch of the new route, AirAsia is offering a special promotional one-way fare from Kuala Lumpur of MYR99* for bookings on  airasia.com and the AirAsia mobile app. Bookings must be made by 30 December for travel from 31 January 2019 to 4 February 2020.
