AirAsia card fast tracks free tickets

SEPANG, 3 December 2018: AirAsia and Hong Leong Bank  launched the AirAsia Hong Leong Bank Credit Card, Friday, that fast tracks accumulation of points to acquire free tickets.

The launch in Malaysia was part of a regional introduction of the AirAsia Credit Card that that started in the Philippines in early November.

The AirAsia Hong Leong Bank Gold and Platinum credit card offers quarterly bonuses of up to 25,000 BIG Points.

It’s good news for the bank’s cardholders in Malaysia if they are already using the low-cost airline’s services frequently.

Cardholders can also accumulate BIG Points faster with a combination of low spend yet high earn rate – 6 BIG Points for every MYR1 spent on AirAsia flights and 1 BIG Point for every MYR international spend or MYR3 local spend on the AirAsia Hong Leong Bank Platinum Credit Card, or MYR5 local spend on the AirAsia Hong Leong Bank Gold Credit Card.

Cardholders will enjoy privileges such as free introductory inflight WiFi plan, priority check-in and boarding, Xpress baggage as well as an instant upgrade to BIG Platinum Membership Status to speed up BIG Points earning on qualifying flight bookings.

AirAsia Group CEO Tony Fernandes said: “The launch of the AirAsia Hong Leong credit card is part of our plan to transform BIG Loyalty from an airline loyalty programme into a travel and lifestyle business. These cards not only allow our BIG Members to earn BIG Points faster and elevate their travel experience, they also make the points more accessible, a key step in making BIG Points a widely used and valuable digital currency, not just for flying but for everyday use.”

Hong Leong Bank Group managing director and chief executive officer Domenic Fuda claimed data showed that Malaysians were ranked amongst the global top five frequent flyers. They take at least 5.5 average flights annually with 83% of them checking into flights online or via mobile for greater convenience.

Malaysian travellers are also the most cost-conscious in Asia with 97% placing price as in important factor when it comes to air travel booking.

AirAsia Philippines launched its first co-branded credit card through a partnership with the national bank group RCBC, 14 November in Taguig City.

The airline’s credit card is due to launch in Indonesia in early 2019.
