Rembrandt hires new GM

-

BANGKOK, 5 November 2018: Veteran hotelier, Eric Hallin, has parted company with Bangkok’s Rembrandt Hotel after 10 years and three months working there as general manager.

A senior executive confirmed the hotel named Christian Bernkopf as the new general manager, effective 1 November, around the same time as Hallin vacated the office.

Bernkopf is still identified on Linkedin as the “present general manager” of the Pullman Danang Beach Hotel having worked there since November 2016.

Information is sketchy, but rumours are rife on what prompted Hallin to leave, but according to his Facebook Page he “taking a break” before looking out for a new hotel management opportunity.

The first hint of a change surfaced when Hallin posted on his Facebook page last week that he had changed his email address.  However, he remains technically employed by the hotel until the end of November.

Despite speculation churned out by Bangkok’s travel trade rumour mill, the hotelier limited his typically polite and thoughtful responses to “due to legal implications unable to comment further.”

Rembrandt enjoyed considerable support from international tour operators owing to Hallin’s long-standing links to high-value markets in Europe.

Located close to the MRT and Skytrain stations on a lane just off the Sukhumvit Road tourist district, the property’s owner is now apparently keen to intensify promotions in the Indian and Chinese markets.

A Swedish national, Hallin has worked mainly in Thailand and the Maldives since 1979 when he was appointed director of sales and marketing of Viking Tours. Prior to that he started his travel and hospitality career with Jambo Tour in 1975 as it Far East manager.

He subsequently worked for the Dusit Thani Group, Westin, Starwood and other chain properties in Thailand and the Maldives.

  1. I wish Eric success in his future endeavors. I will be following him out of the door of the Rembrandt. He was a gracious host and I hope to be a guest in another venue.

  2. Terrible News. The Rembrandt wont be the Rembrandt without Eric Hallin. As a regular guest I will now be looking to stay elsewhere and I know many more who feel the same. As the saying goes, ‘if it aint broke, dont try and fix it”.
