Vietjet CEO honoured in Seoul

-

SINGAPORE, 17 October 2018: President and CEO of Vietjet, Nguyen Thi Phuong Thao, was awarded the “ASEAN Entrepreneur Award” at the annual World Knowledge Forum in Seoul.

She was recognised for her significant contributions towards boosting economic and trade exchange between South Korea and Southeast Asia.

The award was accepted by Vietjet’s vice president, Nguyen Thi Thuy Binh on behalf of the CEO.

Speaking at the event, she said: “Since Vietjet commenced its debut flight between Vietnam and South Korea in 2013, we are proud to have positively contributed to the development of travel and trade exchange between the two countries.”

As of 2017, the passenger turnover between both countries reached more than five million passengers, a threefold increase compared to that of 2013.

The number of airlines routes between Vietnam and South Korea increased from three in 2013 to 10 in 2017. There were around 750 flights per week, eight times higher than that of 2013. Vietjet carried more than 2 million passengers, many of whom were first-time air travellers.

ASEAN Korea Centre secretary general, Lee Hyuk said: “We are delighted that the president and CEO of Vietjet, Nguyen Thi Phuong Thao, was selected as one of the two winners of the ASEAN Entrepreneurs Award 2018.

“This is an acknowledgement of Vietjet’s high-quality operations, its creative services, and meaningful contributions during past years. I firmly believe that the award will serve as a springboard for Vietjet to promote its business and to expand its presence in Korea.”

Vietjet will launch a new route from Seoul to Phu Quoc in December this year.
