TripAdvisor ranks hotel chains

SINGAPORE, 25 October 2018: Asia’s hotel brands were recognised globally as the “most excellent” hotel chains according to TripAdvisor’s latest assessment.

Asia’s Indian Hotels Company (Taj and Vivanta), Shangri-La Group, Oberoi Group, Aman Group, Pan Pacific Hotels Group and Rosewood Hotels & Resorts are all recognised globally as “Most Excellent” Hotel Chains

TripAdvisor announced, Wednesday, the “Most Excellent” hotel chains that have the highest percentage of TripAdvisor Certificate of Excellence recipients globally.

Now in its eighth year, the Certificate of Excellence is given to hotels, as well as other travel businesses, that deliver great service and consistently achieve high traveller reviews on TripAdvisor.

Hotel chains based in Asia Pacific were also recognised as the “Most Excellent” hotel chains globally.

The Indian Hotels Company (Taj and Vivanta) and Shangri-La Group came in third and fifth respectively under the medium chains category whereas The Oberoi Group, Aman Group, Pan Pacific Hotels Group and Rosewood Hotels & Resorts made it to the top 10 in the small chains category.

“The Certificate of Excellence is widely recognised by travellers as an indicator for consistent, high quality service and experience, a recognition you will find proudly displayed in hotels worldwide,” said, TripAdvisor’s spokesperson for Asia-Pacific, Grant Colquhoun. “For the first time ever, TripAdvisor is shining a light on the chains that have received the most Certificate of Excellence this year. Congratulations to all these excellent brands for this tremendous achievement.”

Preferred Hotels and Resorts, an independent grouping of hotels bettered it rivals in the mega category for chains with more than 500 properties.

Hyatt Hotel Corporation and Hilton Holdings Worldwide were second and third in the mega category. Premier Inns and Marriott International filled out the top five places.

Accor group was an absentee from the top hotels in the mega group list. In fact, none of its subsidiaries were featured either in the smaller categories based on fewer properties making up the hotel groups.

However, Belmond deserved a mention for leading the smallest category for groups with 20 to 50 properties.

Some of the top independent names in hotel keeping such as Taj, Oberoi, Shangrila and Mandarin Oriental also scored high in their categories indicating the smaller groups have a strong following with TripAdvisor’s prolific reviewers.

TripAdvisor determined which hotel chains had the highest percentage of Certificate of Excellence recipients across small, medium and large chain categories.

Certificate of Excellence recipients were selected using a proprietary algorithm that takes into account the quality, quantity and timeframe of user reviews, as well as the business’ tenure on the site.

Recipients must maintain an overall TripAdvisor rating of at least four out of five, have a minimum number of reviews and have been listed on TripAdvisor for at least one year. Recipients are announced only once a year.
