Kansai tourist bookings recover

KANSAI, 28 September 2018: Following the resumption of flights to Osaka’s Kansai airport, holiday travel is recovering fast according to the online e-commerce platform KKDay.

In a situation update the company that sells “curated travel experiences” to Kansai and particularly Osaka and Kyoto, said bookings were making a strong recovery now Kansai airport was fully open.

Launched in 2015,the Taiwan-based enterprise recently raised a “series B round” USD10.5 million funded by HIS, a Japanese travel giant.

“Tour and activities have resumed full operations in Japan’s Kansai region after Typhoon Jebi,” the company stated.

Typhoon Jebi, identified as the the strongest tropical cyclone to hit Japan in 25 years devastated the western part of Japan in early September and disrupted transportation within the region.

But the biggest impact for the travel industry was the closure of Kansai International Airport, shut down due to heavy flooding and substantial damage to an airport access road.

It resulted in massive trip cancellations and huge losses for the region’s tourism economy, according to the KKDay report.Now a week after Kansai International Airport reopened, 21 September, the first indicators that travellers are returning to the region are and reflected in improved advance bookings.

KKday, a travel start-up from Taiwan confirmed it has launched an online campaign to speed up recovery in the area.

According to the KKday report most tourist attractions are now ready to accommodate travellers following extensive repairs. It identified tour activities that were not affected by storm damage.

Kiyomizu-dera Temple, Kyoto, with over 1200 years of history, is one of the must-see world heritage sites in Kyoto for travellers, who want to explore ancient Kyoto, including wearing a traditional Kimono and accessories. The popular tour includes a day-long Kimono rental and some great pictures in front of Kiyimizu-dera.

Tour the historic Arashiyama district in style on the Sagano Romantic Train to admire the stunning landscape of the Sagano scenic rail track that winds through the Hozugawa ravine between rocky peaks and steep hill ridges.

Osaka City is a place for shopaholics, foodies, but you an also enjoy panoramic views of Osaka, observing the stunning cityscape 280 metres above ground from the Abeno Harukas Observatory.
